Not quite as short as the 3 inch stubby one but also doesn't look nearly as long as the huge OEM antenna. I didn't have very good luck myself with the 3 inch one that everyone has recommended. Mine broke during install. The top (i.e. the 3 inch shaft attached to the base) slips off so easily now.
This is the antenna that doesn't fit the base perfectly but does thread on and will have better reception than the 3" for sure.

So I cut my antenna today and added a vinyl screw cap. I used a set of wire cutters to cut the antenna, it was pretty easy. The screw cap is the smallest size I could find and that makes it a tight friction fit. Total cost $1.

Now, that's not a bad DIY!

Thank you!

And since I took the pics earlier today, I was able to push the cap down further onto the stalk so it's flat now with no bump on top...not like someone will see that little detail from the back anyways though.

Damn... that's nice! That looks great! I think I will do this myself as well. Couple questions? Where did you get the little vinyl screw cap? Also, to what length did you cut it? Has it hurt your FM reception? Nice DIY.

Thanks!

I chose a spot on the stalk that I thought looked good (it's around the three inch mark) and cut it there. I also chose the spot that would have a thick enough shaft left for the cap to be friction fitted. I guess it's really up to you where you chose to cut it according to your own taste.

Edit: I noticed looking at the pictures again that I made my cut right at the junction where the taper ends and the thin part of the stalk begins. That's easy enough to find

I got the cap at Lowe's. They are in the loose hardware section with bolts and screws etc. and come in bags of four pieces. There are four different sizes...unfortunately, the four sizes are also different colors with black being the smallest. The white caps are the next size up but then you would have to paint the cap to match. The black ones are very tight but they will go on if you work at it.

As for FM reception, I haven't been back to the car since I did the mod yesterday, I'll get back to you. I don't think it will affect it in the city at all however. Weaker, distant stations may not be as strong but local stations should be fine.

I'll take a picture of the antenna mounted as well.

Like beach I have drilled my trunk for the SS spoiler. And just like him I went nuts being paranoid over drilling the holes. The kit has 4 small alignment tabs that stick to the wing, you tape them to the car when you get it set properly. Lift the wing and your template is there to show where to drill. Use a step drill for interior holes so you don't drill though the outside of the trunk. You will be happy with you results if you take your time. Mine is in primer cause I want to get mine painted flat black. cannot wait to get it done and post pics.
