Am I the only one who noticed that you can open the top from the outside but the owner's manual says to operate the top with the engine running so you don't drain the battery?

No, I noticed it, but I'm still doing it -- as a matter of fact, I open mine before entry every morning I drive it -- no problems so far, but I'll keep an eye on the battery charge. Of course, if your alternator system is working, I wouldn't think the battery drain should be too big of a deal.....guess that could be "flawed logic"........

Ha Ha, I've been doing that since I got this roadster but my battery has gone down twice!! wtf? hope it is not related to overuseage of this top down/ up function. 1st time I attributed to the stock battery not fully charged as it occured about 4 days after I got the car ( after a few short drives) and needed a battery boost.I just hope it is not a faulty alternator or a dud battery in this new car. Worse case scenario would be starting problems as described in 2 previous threads here.

Making the top move while standing outside the vehicle is a neat trick (or feature) I guess the Nissan folks thought if you were out driving about with the top down... and wanted it closed once you arrived - you'd close it before exiting the vehicle.

(justifies the existence of the brake/top interlock.

You know - the one that makes you Stop the car before fiddling with the top... It would make an awesome Air brake if actuated at 60 mph.

for me, it is so much easier to get in the car with the roof down. That's a main reason to open before you get in.

Closing before you turn off the engine is a no brainer.

Ummm guys... I suggest you all check out the posts under the below thread conversation on this forum if you are interested in more automatic top functionality:

POSSIBLE solution to opening top with FOB key......and MORE

We are very close to this new SmartTop Mod being released, which would allow you to drop or raise the top, from a distance, with just the key fob, as well as 1 press operation up and down when in the car (without having to hold the button down) and also one press top operation while the car is moving at slow speeds.

And yes, as someone has already said here the reason why you can only drop the top from the outside (and not raise it) is because Nissan only made it that way for you to be able to drop the top to cool it before getting in on hot summer days. I don't see how one can "forget" to put the top up after getting out of the car. How can you miss that there is no roof on your car!!!
