Engine Oil Temp Gauge

Hi All,

Anyone know what's the normal operating range for the engine oil temperature? I'm guessing it would be in the 90's but mine went up to a lil over 100 deg while driving at night.

I also noticed it takes a long time -up to 10 mins- for the needle to move from 70 deg during the first drive of the day. Anyone noticed this?

Thanks

Totally normal. Normal operating temp varies significantly base on ambient temp and how hard you are driving the car. 100C/212F is pretty normal for a 370Z without an aftermarket oil cooler. In the morning it can take 10-15 mins for the oil to reach operating temp.

Thanks Sharif! And I guess it would be prudent not to drive the car hard while it's reaching operating temp?

Exactly. Be gentle and keep revs below 3500rpm until the oil reaches operating temps.

You're usually good to go above 180F/82C

180 F and will get higher as ambient temperature hit 100+ will go to 200 F and the electric fan should turn on. Found synthetic oil to be better than any oil to keep from thermal decomposition.

I'm still on mineral oil as recommended by my Nissan local dealer. Just hit over 5000km mileage. Will be going synthetic for the 10000km oil change

Very good. Suggest you bring your own synthetic oil to the dealer because they charge an arm and a leg.
