Soft Top Repair Price - Hope you're sitting down
 

Hi lads.
Just dropped my Z off at the dealers for a roof repair- it stopped working a few months ago. Got a call from them saying it would cost $12000+ AUD to repair. :shakes head:

Just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar story and whether or not insurance covered them.

Unfortunately, it’s a known issue from what I’ve read here...

I had a 1990 Mustang GT ragtop that blew the hydraulic pump one day. Ford told me I was lucky that I had the “upgraded” model. They had lined the area the pump and roof sat in with vinyl so when it blew it was “contained”.

I junked it in 2012 with 40,000 miles on it when I couldn’t get the doors to close anymore due to the sag. Roof rattled like a a bucket of bolts. The wind and rain would blow through the 2 inch gap between the windshield and the roof.

Will never own another ragtop again...

Wow, that sounds like quite the problems list.
Mine isn't quite so bad, no leaks no extra road noise, no door jamming.
Just roof that isn't operational. Only 34,000 miles on it too. Shame.
I wonder if insurance will be willing to cover as it seems to be a design fault not user error. I have also read about this quote been given out by the Dealers - i was hoping it was a myth.:confused:

What’s the roof actually doing?Is it moving at all?Did Nissan tell you what code it displayed? The most common problem is a pinched wire where the wires bends 90 degree every open/close. The bend point is where they, along with hyd lines are bundled together in a black plastic housing attached to the deck lid arm,passenger side.It can be $0 fix if you rejoin wire yourself like I did or $100 or so at auto electrician. A bit cheaper than Nissan’s repair method.In fact never go to Nissan for a roof issue, unless under warranty, much better to go a convertible repair specialist, not the trim guys but the ones that do the elec/ mechanical, hydraulic repairs
