Soft top pop

I am new to the forum (and to my 2010 Roadster Sport) so hopefully this post works. When closing the soft top, there is a pop from the roof, close to the end of the closing process. Almost as if the rear window shifts position and has to pop out of its roof open position to its roof closed position. Is this normal? If not is there some maintenance that could be done to alleviate the potential problem? I am worried that it is staring some metal parts that is may break. Note that the roof seems to work fine, but the pop has me concerned.

Grandit,

While there is quite a lot going on with the mechanism of your roadster's top operation, they are not the smoothest or the most quiet when cycling.

It is quite common for the storage compartment lid to strike the 5th bow loudly (the bow that is below the rear glass) during opening of the top. The bungee cords that keep that 5th bow vertical stretch with age and don't always pull that 5th bow out of the way of the opening storage lid.

But what you are describing is not the same.

You may have a hinge point that needs some lubrication (most all of them can be found and lubricated by stopping the roof opening or closing at several points during the tops full cycle. A light application of silicone grease applied with a small water colour brush at each joint may solve your issue. DON'T put too much grease on or you stand the chance of staining the top cloth or headliner. After all your car is11 years old and may never have been done.

If the problem still hasn't gone away, post a short video so we can hear and see where and when the pop occurs.

Good Luck, welcome to the club, and enjoy your new ride!

Thank you very much Gene for this reply. That is great advice and mutely appreciated. I will check this out over the next week.
Cheers

Sometimes, don’t know why, the 5th bow will slam onto the deck lid causing a loud pop.
