Default Bungee Kit and then some

I ordered the 5th bow bungee kit Part # 971F6-1ET0C, however that was replace with part # 971F61ET2A. Not thinking there would be much of a difference. The bungee kit arrived today and I have a number of extra parts that I am not sure what they are or where they go. The picture to the left is what came in the kit, the picture to the right is what I expected. Any ideas as to what the other parts are for?

If you look closely in the upper left corner of the kit you will see two springs attached to straps. I did look around with the top partially open and could see nothing that resemble those parts.

Thanks for your input.

Update: this is the correct part# and parts, there is a TSB on the convertible top that includes retrofit of many new/added parts to eliminate the top hitting the tonneau cover or snapping shut.

No instructions?
If I remember correctly, the old kit still was failing. Is the new kit redesigned to fix the problems with the first one?

No instructions included. From what I can find out searching the web, the bungee strength has been increased to close to 100 lbs of pull when fully extended. That sounds like a lot however, from just trying to stretch them and tugging on the existing ones they are stronger. So I am hopeful that they will work as intended.

As for the other parts, I can only guess that they have included any and all parts that my be need for either the 370z Roadster or the Murano Cabriolet. Again, just a guess.

I have viewed all the DYI videos by Top Hydraulics and they don't show anything like the extra parts include in the kit other then the bungee items and of course hydraulic pistons and lines.

Going to install the new bungees next week. I will let you know how they work.

See update in original post, when in dought do more research.

The answer is..... wrong bungee kit, the main / long bungees are to long by about 4 inches. The short bungees are correct. After starting the replacement on the driver side I had to re-attach the long bungee and use the new small one. I had enough strap left at the top of the old long bungee to punch a hole in it and reuse it as I would install new one. With just a new short bungee on the driver side the top no longer snaps shut, Still, what a pain in the arse.

I guess I will complete the install of the short bungee on the passenger side to balance things out. No need to even remove the old large bungee, just remove the top bolt, cut the short bungee strings, screw in the top of the new short bungee, punch the hole for the rivet in the strap where the old short bungee passed through, and install the rivet.

I'm also looking into ways to shorten the new large bungees, any ideas for a crimping tool that would hold the two cords together, currently the ends pass by each other and slip into a metal tube about 3/8 inches long. It is crimped down the middle with a cord in each side.

So part # 971F61ET2A is the wrong kit?

See update on original/first post. This is the correct 5th bow bungee kit, it is much more extensive then the kit it replaced.

The large bungees in that kit are way to long and as you can see from my first post it has a ton of unknown / unused parts. The only thing that appears correct is the very short bungees. So yes, it would appear that 5th Bow Bungee kit 971F6-1ET2A is not the correct kit. I just checked the packaging to verify that is the part # I received.

This should have been my first step not my last, I know better, I must of had a major brain cramp. See update on original post.

I am planning to call ProNissanParts.com and see what they know about the bungee kit and if there is anything they can do to get the correct kit. Since I had to use some of the part (cut off the short bungee before noticing length on the long bungee) I am probably out the cost of the kit.

I spoke with the a service tech at ProNissanParts.com. I did receive the CORRECT 5th Bow Bungee kit. However, there is a TSB on the top and all the extra parts are used to modify the install of the Bungee kit to correct any future problems with the roof hitting the toneau cover or snapping shut. The Service Tech is going to email me the 42 page install instructions for the new / updated kit. I am not sure I will take on the TSB bungee kit install, I may have to bite the bullet and take it to a dealer.

42 pages?
So all those extra parts are additional stuff we need to install? Looks like a good DIY post for anyone so inclined to do so! lol
Let us know how things turn out.

The service tech emailed me the Install instructions for the new bungee kit, its not 42 pages as he stated, its 33 pages. Still a very difficult and extensive upgrade to the bungees in the roadster top. I tried to upload however it exceeds the upload limit for PDF's. With the slight modification I made, (installing small bungees) and moving the long bungees as per the Top Hydraulic video the top is working as it should. I am going to wait and see how it holds up before I do anything else. I am starting to think this is a dealer install / upgrade.

I'm in France and we cannot buy the kit in France dealer.

In your opinion, what is the best website to order the kit ?

I ordered the bungee kit from pronissanparts.com. they were very helpful and provided the TSB install documentation. However, nissanpartsdeal.com is also very good to deal with. Pronissanparts is located in Texas, and nissanpartsdeal is located in New Jersey.
