Default DIY Roadster Spoiler Install with Pics

I finally installed my roadster spoiler this past weekend, and thought it would be great to share my experience. I have been waiting and searching for a spoiler. I finally settled with roadster spoiler from spoiler solution because of its OEM look. Please note that this is my very first DIY write up...

Background about myself:

I am not a mechanic, and my tools are very limited. I am a dentist, and my 370Z is my toy car which I use to learn how to work on cars. I have done most of the mod myself. Even though most DIY here on the forum gives approximate time for the project to finish, I usually take at least two to three times longer. Anyways, my point is if I can do it, you all can do it.

Tools:

1. 1/8 and 5/16 drill bits
2. Uni bit
3. Silicon adhesive.
4. Cordless Drill
5. Masking tapes
6. 2-3 friends
7. some Guts to drill through the trunk.

Procedures:

Before I start, I removed the trunk liner to expose bare metal.

1. I first taped up the rear part of the trunk completely so I can measure and align the spoiler. It not only protect the paint, but I get to make different marks and drawings to re-assure the position of the spoiler.

2. Test fitting the spoiler, making sure the spoiler is on the dead center of the car.

3. Since I will be taking the spoiler on and off, I want to make sure I got the spoiler to the exact same spot each time after I remove it. I placed a small tape on the spoiler and draw a line through at different parts of the spoiler for alignment purposes.

4. Put the alignment tab on the holes I picked, and place the spoiler back on the trunk. I used the top 4 holes because I feel that it will provide better stability. Re-measure again and taped the alignment tab onto the trunk.

5. Remove the spoiler, leaving the alignment tab on the trunk. It took me several tries just to do this step because some alignment tab just won't stay put. Patient is the key!

6. Finally drilled the holes... There is no turning back! Even though I am a dentist, and I am pretty good at drilling because that is what I do every day, drilling through my trunk however took a lot of courage. First I used 1/8 pilot drill, then moved to 5/16. I drilled through the double panel of the trunk so I know where to open the access hole from the inner trunk. I then used touch up paint to cover the exposed metal. For the inner trunk, I used a unibit to open up the hole that is large enough for my 1/4 socket to go through.

7. I used silicon adhesive around the holes and I also put a bead of silicon within the spoiler weather seal. With help of 2 other men, I fasten all 4 screws and secured the spoiler.

8. Wiped all the excess silicon off the trunk, and enjoy the spoiler...

Special thanks to Bummer, who helped me a lot through PM and answer all of my questions. Without his help, I would not have made it through. After I received the spoiler, I noticed that the spoiler doesn't fit perfectly. There are bigger gaps between the far right pillar and the trunk than the left. The spoiler is not perfect fit but it is close enough that no one else would notice.
