Help if you can
Hi all.
Not sure if anyone can help with this? I have a 2010 370Z roadster and have a problem with the FM radio. I loose some of the weaker stations. I narrowed it down to the boot antenna. I've removed the antenna and stripped off the cover to find a lot of corrosion inside. There is also a small printed circuit board there to which is also showing signs of corrosion. 1st question is: Is the printed circuit board part of the GPS system ? If it is, a none genuine antenna won't work, so I need a genuine replacement. 2nd question: I'm in the UK and the 370z roadster wasn't a good seller. If I wanted a second hand antenna I doubt I would be able to find one in the UK. Would any one in the US know of a roadster that's being broken for parts and may have the antenna available? Any info would be a help Jon |

The antenna wire itself can handle a little corrosion with no ill effect. Not so much the electronics.
Inspect the antenna wire and make sure the corrosion hasn't eaten through it. If it is just a straight piece of wire, it can be replaced with another wire that is exactly the same length. Diameter of wire is not critical but much bigger than what is there may be difficult to handle. I'd try cleaning the circuit board with a plastic bristled brush (eg, tooth brush) and some distilled water (just distilled water, no soap or anything else). Rinse well and let completely dry (a hair dryer set on low heat will speed the process) before powering up. If there is any corrosion remaining on the connector pins, it can be removed with a small wire brush or fine sandpaper. Before re-installing antenna unit, you need to find out why the corrosion occurred in the first place. More than likely a water leak.

Its a bit beyond cleaning. Most of the circuit board was crumbling when I open it. |

Sorry to hear that. Good luck on your quest for a replacement.
