Spare Tire?

Is there a spare tire included with the roadster? The tires are not "run-flat", plus audio expansions on the trunk may be limited :icon17:

FuszNissan 10-26-2009 10:16 AM

The spare tire is an option. If you don't get the spare tire, they have a plug and fill kit included free. Which I highly recommend a tire/roadhazard warranty with this vehicle or AAA.

The kit is basically a canister of foam, to get you to the nearest dealer.

I saw that last night. No spare tire on the 2010 roadster? Only an option? WTF???? :ughdance:

And that can of foam ain't gonna help you if you have a sidewall issue.

FuszNissan 10-26-2009 10:22 AM

I believe you get a plug as well with the canister. But yes, for trunk space, the spare tire is an option. Kind of wierd.

Robert_Nash 11-08-2009 05:22 PM

At the moment, only Maryland bound cars actually get a spare tire. Demand for actual spares (if you can call what they put in cars today a "spare" was anticipated to be a lot lower than it's turned out to be.

I don't like the idea of no spare but then again, I haven't had a flat in many years and would likely call AAA if I did anyway...it does make for a bit of concern if driving in a remote area!

azn370z 11-08-2009 05:37 PM

The odd thing is that the flat tire goes behind the passanger seat.

FuszNissan 11-08-2009 09:24 PM

I am not sure if Nissan is trying to cut cost or what, but it will be a customer complaint battle in my eyes

will the canister of foam mess up the tpms?

FuszNissan 11-09-2009 06:41 AM

Great Question, I am not sure how much they have researched it.

Robert_Nash 11-21-2009 11:06 AM

I suspect a lot of people on this forum aren't old enough to remember :) but there was a time when cars came, not with wimpy little donut "spare tires" but real, actual tires that were just like the ones that came on the four working wheels. But, that started to change sometime in the '80s I beleive.

It took people a while to get used to the idea but real spare tires eventually became something you only see now on cars in museums.

A similar thing is not happening with the donut spare tires being replaced by "repair kits". The kits save both weight and money...I don't know which manufacturer did it first or exactly when but I am pretty certain that Ford has been doing this since at least its '08 models.

What seems to have happened with the 370Z Roadster is that the demand for a spare tire rather than a kit far outstripped what was anticipated (I guess it's going to take a while for people to get comfortable with the idea). On top of that, the State of Maryland is the only state that REQUIRES a spare time in a car hence, every roadster that had an actual spare tire got slated to Maryland.

As I've said before, I haven't actually had a flat in years and even if I had a spare, I'd probably just call AAA and ask for a flatbed to tow me so I could get it fixed (of course as I say this, this will probably be the year i DO have flat!).

Saw a show the other day. It showed how fix a flat works. They released the contents into a clear bottle. After a while ther was very little residue left in the bottle. The makers also say it will not harm the tpms.

kdo2milger 11-21-2009 12:12 PM

huh..really...good to know, i may put one in the z just for emergencies

FuszNissan 11-21-2009 12:31 PM

Not a bad idea

SigPapa226 12-14-2009 05:50 PM

OK guys. I read all the above, but does anyone know if we are suppose to get a jack????
I have a tire iron and the repair kit, but no jack in my roadster.

kdo2milger 12-14-2009 06:09 PM

there is a scissor jack in my coupe, but not sure if the verts are equiped with them or not...have you asked the dealer where you bought it?

FuszNissan 12-14-2009 06:37 PM

Did you check the trunk area under the floor? I will try and look tomorrow at the dealership and see if I can find out exactly where it is located. Maybe John or someone here that has a roadster can chime in.

I pulled up the floor and found the Tire iron and there is a cutout for the jack, no jack. I just checked it tonight, so i will call them tomorrow.

John Bradley 12-14-2009 08:25 PM

There is no jack.. bottle of fix a flat type stuff and cool air pump that plugs in to the
12v in the car.

370Z Roadster spare tire accessory kit

I found a spare tire accessory kit from Nissan for the roadster. It includes a new replacement tray and cover, tire jack and tools and fits in the well of the trunk replacing the repair kit. It apparently sells for $400-$450. I also found the instruction sheet for the kit but it's too big to attach.

The part# is: 999W5ZW000 370Z CONV. SPAR

John Bradley 12-16-2009 09:42 AM

Whats the website info ?? I was thinking that the spare tire option from nissan was not that much, but I can't remember for sure..Does the tire kit you found include the actual wheel and tire ?? Yiou typed tire jack and tools, wasnt sure if you meant..tire, jack and tools or just a tire jack :)

Thanks

fisherg 12-16-2009 10:11 AM

Try this link below for the instruction manual pdf. The parts list on the front page illustrates a wheel with no tire but all the photos in the sheet show the complete temp spare (both tire and wheel) so I'm sure the illustration is wrong. Otherwise it shows you everything that is included in the kit.

I think I will end up buying the kit when my roadster is delivered as long as the spare and tools fit completely in the well and I don't lose any trunk space.

One more note... After reading this spare tire kit sheet more closely it may be that you have to purchase the temp tire separately and have it mounted on the wheel. It's not very clear if it really is included. Also, there is not a specific mention of a tire iron either but the photos show one.

Hi-Step'n370Z 03-24-2010 02:08 PM

Just ordered spare tire kit for the 370Z Roadster

The kit includes the spare wheel, spare wheel clamp down assembly, tool storage tray, inner trim panel, jack, jack rod, spare tire cover, a valve stem, "this is a spare tire" caution label, tire placard label, (shows inflation pressure- 60 psi, and tire size- 145/70/18.

HOWEVER! you have to buy the actual tire and have it mounted and balanced.

The dealer is charging me $460.00 for the kit, and not sure how much for the tire, but is going to try to find one locally and doesn't expect it to cost too much, but whatever it is, it is.

So. The wheel locks are on, and spare tire looks like a done deal. Now all I need to do is to DRIVE THE CAR!! LOL.

Do you have a part number for the spare tire kit? My dealer can't even figure that out!!!!!

The part number for the Roadster spare tire kit is: 999W5 ZW000

Zaggeron 03-24-2010 07:46 PM

Damn for $460 + tire and mounting I can easily get triple AAA for a good number of years or just pay for a tow on the off chance I get a flat ....

Given that I'm not buying a spare, someone should come up with a roadster trunk kit that replaces that big block of foam shaped like a wheel in my trunk that provides me with some extra usable space.

TalismanIII 03-29-2010 11:30 PM

Hi Guys,

I picked up my roadster here in Canada a few weeks ago and it came with a spare. I don't know if it is the law up here, or if the dealer just orders it with the car. When I looked at the window sticker, there is no mention of a spare.
I guess maybe for us here in Canada it comes standard, so my post here maybe will help others in Canada when it comes to this question.

From the posts here in the forum I expected not to find a tire, but was pleasantly surprised when I did.

370Z_Fan 03-30-2010 01:03 AM

How much did you pay for your roadster? And how long did it take you to order your roadster?

dalparadise 03-30-2010 10:21 PM

It's not about weight or cost savings. What you guys are missing is that the reason there is no spare in the Roadster is that there is no way to carry the wheel you'd remove if you were to change tires. The cargo opening for the trunk is not big enough and putting it in the front seat is just not an option. So, what would you do? leave a $500+ wheel on the side of the road and come back for it?

Zaggeron 03-30-2010 10:26 PM

If I recall correctly the manual states the removed wheel goes behind the passenger seat with the top down. I guess you'd have to move the seat all the way forward.

Zaggeron 03-30-2010 10:32 PM

Yup. section 6-6. Even shows a little picture of the wheel behind the passenger seat.

Try it if you want. I wouldn't do it. There's a shelf back there that's too narrow for the wheel. Even if it fit, you'd ding up all the back of your seat and the intakes for the seat cooler. Plus, I don't think it would fit anyway. Not a sport back wheel.

Zaggeron 03-30-2010 10:40 PM

I guess if the wheel fits, but the passenger doesn't after the wheel is in place behind the seat, then the passenger stays behind .... gotta get your priorities straight :)

Zaggeron 03-30-2010 10:41 PM

I checked and the manual does have specific instructions as I've descrbed -- it even shows a picture of the wheel behind the seat. I'd likely just call a flatbed anyway ...

fisherg 04-06-2010 08:00 PM

I was going to add a spare but after some thought it really does not make any sense especially when you have a passenger along (unless you don't mind dumping your passenger for the tire!) I'll rely on AAA instead.

370Z_Fan 04-07-2010 02:41 PM

The other alternative is putting the flat sport wheel and tire in the trunk but leave the trunk lid ajar. I don't know if the cops might pull you over for doing this.

Haz 09-09-2010 11:39 AM

I am pissed. I bought mine without looking in the trunk. I was on a 2800 miles Joy ride last week in a middle of no where in back roads of Canada. Thank GOD nothing happened.
I have to get one and I don't care where I am going to carry it. I wonder if I can design a Trunk Rack for my car. hmmmm!!!! That would be nice.

Spare Tire

In my '12 Roadster, the spare, jack and all fit below, in the wheel well, and did not take up any truck space, even with the inflator for run flats.
I have a spare and OEM jack for sale, if needed.
Cheers,
Chuck
