It's not about weight or cost savings. What you guys are missing is that the reason there is no spare in the Roadster is that there is no way to carry the wheel you'd remove if you were to change tires. The cargo opening for the trunk is not big enough and putting it in the front seat is just not an option. So, what would you do? leave a $500+ wheel on the side of the road and come back for it?

If I recall correctly the manual states the removed wheel goes behind the passenger seat with the top down. I guess you'd have to move the seat all the way forward.

Try it if you want. I wouldn't do it. There's a shelf back there that's too narrow for the wheel. Even if it fit, you'd ding up all the back of your seat and the intakes for the seat cooler. Plus, I don't think it would fit anyway. Not a sport back wheel.

Yup. section 6-6. Even shows a little picture of the wheel behind the passenger seat.

I guess if the wheel fits, but the passenger doesn't after the wheel is in place behind the seat, then the passenger stays behind .... gotta get your priorities straight

I checked and the manual does have specific instructions as I've descrbed -- it even shows a picture of the wheel behind the seat. I'd likely just call a flatbed anyway ...

I was going to add a spare but after some thought it really does not make any sense especially when you have a passenger along (unless you don't mind dumping your passenger for the tire!) I'll rely on AAA instead.

The other alternative is putting the flat sport wheel and tire in the trunk but leave the trunk lid ajar. I don't know if the cops might pull you over for doing this.

I am pissed. I bought mine without looking in the trunk. I was on a 2800 miles Joy ride last week in a middle of no where in back roads of Canada. Thank GOD nothing happened.
I have to get one and I don't care where I am going to carry it. I wonder if I can design a Trunk Rack for my car. hmmmm!!!! That would be nice.
