should I buy a 2014 370z or not?
I need to buy a car next week...
I have a 13 mustang and had defect so I decided to go with BBB. I won the case and getting a refund. So obvi, I am going to need a car ASAP I just went to one of the Nissan dealer and they had a 2014 370z base + spt pack They offered 4k off from msrp bfore Tax,Tag,Title. (6spd MT) It seems to be a pretty good deal but It's just that SOMETHING'S holding me back from getting 370z... IDK what it is though... so far, I drove a 5.0 mustang, 370z, Brz, MINI C. S. JCW and of course the BRZ felt the slowest out of all 4 but I heard that the car has so much potential with the boxer engine (aftermarket turbo can easily pull 300+whp in a light car!!!) and the ft86 Rocket Bunny bodykit looks just sexy as hell But I do love the Amuse body kit for 370z wide fenders and that sexy @ss!!! could you guys please help me out here I don't know what car to choose and buy... PLEASE~~~ |

I know what you mean about something holding you back. I was all set to get a Mustang GT Premium until I found out the transmissions was Chinese. And I wanted a Z but there was something....
I went to several dealers and saw all the options possible. DO NOT go to a dealer that has two or three Zs in stock. You want to see ten or so. There are oodles of choices, and you want to see them all. At first I did not care for the sport pack but it grew on me. The Nav was a must. So decide right now what is a must have for you. Go through the brochure and pick the non-negotiable items and stick to your guns. Then check out the options. What was holding me back was the price for all the stuff I wanted. I got lucky and the sun rose on me one day, when a new car with 45 miles on it was seriously discounted because as the dealer says, when it hits 50 miles it will not sell. It was not the color I wanted but it had sport and Nav so I was happy. The thing holding you back is the unknown, so surf these boards and go to a Z meet in your area and learn some more. Maybe you need to see a Nismo, or a convertible, or a different interior. Believe me the dealers are more than happy to help you find what you want. Been there. Good luck. |

If you really want a good deal and maybe color or trim is not a big deal try looking into 2013's I bet dealers really want to get those off their lots. I got mine for invoice plus rebates/incetives which was like 3500.
It was a black M/T base+sport package. Nav was not an issue with me mainly because you can buy and install a double din headunit now a days that usually have better nav systems then OEM anyways. And its only like $500 vs the 2k for OEM or something like that. As for the BRZ dont...trust me. I owned a FRS for a year. I bought it in October of 2012 when they were first starting to hit dealers and being in AZ it is one of the largest FRS/BRZ communities in the country aside from California of course, so I have seen the issues others have had and the power they have added with issue after issue or dollar after dollar being spent on high end parts. But stock its a power let down. And to get it to perform anywhere near expected a lot of money will have to be dumped into the engine/suspension. Not to mention its still a new platform so many of the issues with it toyota/subaru have written off as known issues with the car and a "known characteristic" basically those faults are included in the purchase of the car lol. I switched over to the 370Z because of the sexy styling similar to the FRS but butt loads of more power. Plus it may not have a low center of gravity in comparison to the FRS but with suspension upgrades it can become a great car. For me if I were you i would rule out the BRZ at least until they do a refresh on the model to get all the kinks out. Who knows maybe wait around for the new Supra. But you did say you are in need of a car now. Last edited by The Z; 02-13-2014 at 12:04 PM. |

Probably not going to be possible to give suggestions without knowing what you're really looking for in a car. What makes you happy? What are you absolute need items? What sort of budget are looking for? What are you expecting to do to/with the car?
What about each car do you like and dislike? Why not do another 13 Mustang? You want to tune on the car? I *might* actually suggest going elsewhere from the Z. You can do things to it, but don't expect a good +hp-to-dollar ratio, if power/speed is all you care about. You want public street spirited driving that is fun and isn't going to kill you? You might like the mini best. (Hell, even a new WRX.) IMO, if you're absolutely not sure and you absolutely need a car quickly, I would always suggest you go cheaper. That way if you do make a hasty mistake, you're not tied up with high payments for ~6 years. If you can find them (in Miami I'm sure you could), maybe you could rent for a while and rent the ones you want. Spend a week with your chosen picks. That gives you a chance to take your time AND try them out. |

Stay away from the Manual transmissions....these cars have a history of CSC (Concentric Slave Cylinder) failure, repairs will be $1,000 & up, and have a routine failure at low miles. I'm on my 3rd one already within 50,000 miles. No hard driving or racing of my car. FYI

I'm not sure why people come to a Z forum asking what car to buy.

If you're paying out of pocket, why haven't you put in the aftermarket one instead?

I didn't care for the FRS or the BRZ because when I test drove it, the engine sounded like a VW bug, and that was a total turn off for me. It handled nice, the interior was OK, radio looked kinda cheap, and was 'peppy'. But the interior of the Z is much nicer, it handled better, more power, sounds much better, and more expensive and no back seat. I think the FRS/BRZ had a tad more width in the front seat. Then I read the FRS/BRZ repair report from Consumer Reports - readers reported much worse than average. The Z was average. The Z sticks out, there are not many on the street. Sales in the US was only about 7338 in 2012 according to wikipedia. Insurance is higher because parts and repairs run more expensive, say almost 3x of my Civic which translates to $1100 a year on the Z for me, no infractions and I'm an older multi vehicle owner. The Z is 100% Japanese made (according to the sticker). You should be able to get a Z for 6% to 10% below MSRP, depending upon the dealer. They are usually getting sales incentives they don't tell you about.

took me a year and a half to buy the car and I kept coming back to test drive another. Always loved it but yeah, it was that "something" that held me back. Finally I said **** it and bought the damn thing. Very happy with it. But it also helps that I love small cars. Just depends on what you are looking for like everyone else has already said. Good luck!
