I see nothing wrong with the question. It may not be common (or even possible) these days, but it was years ago. My father hitchhiked a few hundred miles to the Chevy plant and drove his new Camaro convertible right off of the assembly line... '67 Rally SuperSport Convertible 5-speed in Metallic Gold. I believe they were still topping off fluids when he arrived. He signed the papers, paid cash, and was handed keys. I'm sure the ride back home was more enjoyable.
