Questions and hidden fees?
So I've been reading the forums for a while now and I'm hooked. So with all the invoice information and with some help from the amazing Mr. Fusz in helping me find the car I wanted, I just finished negotiations for my Z today. Its an 09 Pearl White Touring with the Sports package, 7AT, and floor mats. I negotiated for 37k +ttl. So I have a few questions:
1. I'm just curious if everyone thinks I got a good deal. I based the number on the invoice price for the car of ~36600. So what does everyone think? 2. So the car that I found was about 300 miles away and the best deal that I got was from a dealership about 40 miles from my home. They agreed to go get the car after we agreed to 37k + ttl. But we didn't actually sign any papers. I put down a 500 dollar deposit and I guess we will sign the papers when I pick up the car. Now I have a feeling that there will be hidden fees or something of that nature. What should I be expecting when I go to pick up the car and sign the papers and how should I avoid these fees? This is my main question as I'm worried about my deposit if they start tacking on silly fees that I know are bogus. Any insight would be great! Thanks, Hopeful new Z owner |

This has nothing to do with fees, but read the first post.
A word to the wise when signing papers...

I think you did a great job. But you should always negotiate "Out the Door" Price. This way there are no hidden fees. They could have a processing fee of 599.00. Then I would say you can probably do better. It is a hard to find color though. Don't get frustrated just negotiate somemore and be prepared to leave and start over if you don't feel comfortable. You may lose your deposit though, depending on the dealers practices. Processing fees are not required to be paid, but are allowed to be charged. So it's a fine line. i hope that helps it's 5 am.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm getting a loan from a credit union instead of through Nissan. So I'm going to call the dealership today and get the price out the door so I can tell my credit union. This way I can figure out the fees and what not.

Agreed. Out the Door (OTD) or Driveout price is easiest way to deal, so you know that they dont sneak in anything. Calculate the Driveout price before you go into the dealer, so you know where you need to be at, thats how i always negotiate.

I had a feeling I was being stupid getting excited. The dealership was supposed to call me this morning about going to pick up my car from another dealership and they never called. So I called them and they are saying the other dealership may not trade them the car. So I may not be getting that one anytime soon. They are calling me back in an hour to tell me whats up. I would just go to where the car is but its 5 hours away. Any ideas?
