S Florida: factory order and Nav system
Looking for purchase a 370z Touring, AT, Sport Pkg, MB in South Florida. Initially, I was looking for a 2013 model (0% financing), but the only one I found that I liked was a 5/12 build>> though it had a good price ($37.5k), I didn't feel comfortable buying a car that has been sitting over 1 year on a dealer’s lot and it was a different color. In any case, as the AT MB color is very difficult to find locally, I have decided to factory order from Nissan and go for a 2014 model and even though I won’t receive until December, at least I will have the comfort that it’s a brand new car with the options and color that I want.
Right now, I’m wavering about including the factory NAV option as I think that it makes a big difference in how the car looks inside. However, my concern is the durability of the Nav unit as I plan to keep the car for a long time and would hate to have to repair it or replace it once it’s out of warranty; I have heard that the replacement cost is over $5000. My heart tells me go for the Nav unit, but my mind tells me to go aftermarket and not risk any big repair bills in the future. What do you guys think? Also, I’m still searching for a dealer to place the order from here in S Florida. Any suggestions or past experiences with area dealers are greatly appreciated. In particular, I’m interested to know if I can still expect to get a good deal for a car that I’m ordering compared to a car at the lot? Looking at carsdirect.com, the prices for a similar equipped 2014 Touring model (with and w/o Nav) is $1000 over invoice + the dealer fees that are common here in FL ($600-700) so I would be paying @ $1700 over invoice. Reading the forums here, my goal is to pay no more than $500 over invoice including all dealer fees- is this reasonable for a factory ordered car? Thanks for all your help! Look forward to joining the 370z club soon. |

I purchased my 2013 Touring Edition (with navigation package) from Wallace Nissan in Stuart.
This was back in January. They did not have the car I wanted in stock, but they located exactly what I wanted at a dealer in Savannah, Georgia. I traded in a 2010 Hyndai Genesis Sedan. I did the entire negotiation via e mail and it was quick and painless. I am VERY happy with my Z and the deal I struck.

Daflabear, thanks for the input and glad to hear that you got a good deal at Wallace Nissan. If you don't mind, can I ask if you paid near invoice for your car and if there was a dealer processing/document fee added? Also, if you have a contact person at Wallace, please PM the details so that I can email my request. Wallace Nissan is about 90 miles from me so it's doable provided I get a good deal on my order.
The plan is to contact three area dealers and see which one has the best deal for a factory order. I will be moving to a house with a garage in December so I actually prefer to wait until then to receive the car (don't really want to park it in the street now with all the rain here in Miami). |

i've been trolling this forum for a few years now and i have yet to hear anyone's NAV having issues. If anything were to break, i think maybe the lcd screen would go bad?? And the lcd screen is VERY easy to replace; so it would only be the cost of the screen for repair. Just my 2 cents.

I had the screen die. Replaced under warranty no questions asked.

Thank you for the comments. Good to know that there seems to be no major issues for the factory Nav unit and that it's repaired under warranty. However, as most factory Nav systems on the 370z have been installed under 5yrs, my concern is what happens after this time when problems usually begin to appear on hard drive systems and where the factory warranty already expired? Somebody suggested purchasing an extended warranty from Nissan to hedge against possible problems, so this may be a solution, but it does add to the total cost of the Nav option ($2000 + $1500) which may not be worth it compared to an aftermarket Nav unit.

They ship right into FL jacksonville so you may be able to see if a dealer can snag one from another dealer before it ships out.

Yes, I ended doing a factory order as the MB color with the options I wanted was not available locally. In any case, I got a good deal (invoice) though the trade off is waiting until December to receive the car. Well, at least it will be a great Christmas present to myself. Also, it will give me some time to save up for the necessary accessories>>>clear bra, aftermarket navigation, and front and rearview cameras for added protection.

I suppose it doesn't matter now that Mambomn has ordered from the factory, but before doing a factory order have your dealer check the dealer network and see if another dealer has what you want. That's MANY times faster than ordering from the factory.

The dealer did do a check of local inventory, but could not locate the car with the desired options. In any case, as I will be in and out of town for the next few months it's actually more convenient to wait to take delivery until December. Also, I wanted to get a brand new, never road tested car, so this was the only sure way. Yes, waiting three months is not the ideal situation, but for me it will be worth it.
