Carmax?

|
My understanding is that they only do the free transport up to a certain distance... maybe 250 miles I think. Any more than that and you pay regardless.
|
I got mine from Carmax, and I want to say the $250 transfer fee went towards the purchase price, but unfortunately I cannot look that far back on my accounts to make sure. Considering the total price it didn't seem to matter much. Sorry..
|
Got mine through CarMax and it was $800 for transport and no, that doesn't get put toward the purchase nor is it financeable. I think their transport rates are a little high given I've shipped cars cross country for less. I wish mine was only $550.
If it's the car you want though and you've been searching for a while for the perfect one, the transport fee is just the cost of doing business whether through CarMax or if you bought one privately in a distant state. You do have a right to refuse the car and get your money back, of course, if it is damaged or not as advertised. Mine arrived off the transport with a cracked tail light and creased rear bumper which I could have then refused the car at that point but they replaced those. I think generally, they try to do their best to make sure you're satisfied. |
they won't include the shipping within the cost (financed that is) due to their return policy. Each state has its own vehicle requirements so they must meet those if shipped. its all labor and transport costs BUT some decent/shady? finance guys can actually work a cash back option with your financing or you can work a few months payments into the financing to get it to match your up front costs.

Yep, I bought my Z from Carmax. I paid 400 to have it shipped from Tennessee to Texas. And like everybody has said, the transfer is added on top of the actual car price. I had a good experience with them though... my sister worked for the company so I was able to get a discount.

ive only sold cars to carmax, and they are very legitimate from my experience. :)
|
I ate $550 non refundable up front to have the car shipped to my city so I could inspect and decide whether to buy it.
Sales guys told me they make same commission regardless of sale price. And tell them not to wash the car (same goes for dealerships). The guy that dried my car put a few visible scratches on, although it was easily buffed out on the spot. |
I think I paid $750 to transfer my Z from Maryland and $450 to transfer my truck from Vegas. Both vehicles were priced way better than any other I saw on the market at that time, even after the transfer fees added.

Yeah, they didn't catch that mine was a Touring + Sport so despite my shipping charge, I came out pretty good.

What year and how much???
Maybe it's not that great of a deal |

I am not selling MY car, but if someone said "I have $26k, I want your car," I'd sell it to him in a heartbeat OP, and ZBrah, I would NEVER, EVER sell my POS car to anyone I knew, trade it in, maybe... But I can't give my headache to anyone else... And OP, you must not be looking at KBB correctly. You should be looking at the trade in value, and pay according to that |
