Dealership being sketchy regarding my order, help?
I don't know if I am being paranoid but I think I want some advice.
I ordered the car on the last day of February, I was told that the car should arrive in 8-10 weeks. My gut feeling tells me something is wrong. First of all, the salesman I spoke to was definitely very experienced and knew what he was doing, several red flags were raised during negotiation. I went in and knew exactly what I wanted, he tried to bs me into buying whatever is available, then right when I was about to leave he acted all surprised and told me "oh I forgot, how silly of me, we can factory order one for you". Finalized the deal and I said I wanted the car's vin number and was told I would get it in about 2 weeks. A month past and heard nothing from them. After another couple of weeks they told me they can't get it because the car is made in Japan and not the U.S. Sounds like a whole lot of bs to me. I went to another dealer last week and I was told there are 2 cars that fits my spec. One in Vancouver, one in Ottawa. The dealer I dealt with also got a new shipment of cars, 2013 Zs with sport packages, GTRs, etc. I know its not 90 days yet, but I have a bad feeling about the whole situation. |

I live in Toronto, if new members from Toronto are interested, they can PM me and I'll gladly let them now.
They only thing they gave me was the shipping number after my constant nagging. I can't figure out the reason why they would keep the VIN number a secret though. Perhaps they don't want the car to be "locked" into selling it to me and thus maintaining flexibility and the possibility of selling my car to a higher bidder who wants it right away. OP, i'm seeing deja vu with your post. I've been there done that. Go to the different dealership. Get one from ottawa if you can. I ordered my Nismo in January, and until my car arrived, it was a fcking nightmare. Dealer didn't follow up for weeks and weeks and I had to pull their bullSHI* out their *** at the end. My gut feeling was bad, but i gambled and stuck with that dealership. I learnt my lesson hard way. Go to another dealer even at a bit of extra expense. If the dealer doesn't follow up, FU*K em.
edit: by the way, I never got my factory order. because they "forgot" to order one. |

Here's how it went down for me:
I too went to my dealer and told him exactly what i wanted and what i would pay. He went and got a computer printout of Z's with vin numbers and location. A black one at another dealer in town or a gun metallic on the boat. I opted for the GM. Had to wait for Monday for him to be able to secure the car but it was delivered on time 4 weeks later. This was my third new car from this dealer and second from that salesman so i get no BS. They don't even ask me if i want any "extras"after i went off on them the first time. Lol. OP just go to another dealer, tell them politely what you're expecting and if they can't deliver, walk out.

My experience echoes Sparky pretty much. Took about a week or two for the dealer to not only locate, but actually claim a car at the dock. After that, had the VIN in hand. About 2-3 weeks later, car arrived.
My guess is your dealer just hasn't been able to secure a vehicle. If they're a smaller dealer or non-Nissan or something, they may have less ability to secure one ahead of others. In a non-snotty sort of way, you should ask your second dealer what the story might be for the first one in why they're having issues getting a car. Maybe phrase it like you don't want to jump to conclusions and badmouth them to friends/family/forums, but can't get a straight answer from them directly. I will say, if you're heading to leave and he "remembers" something, he's an *** and shouldn't get your sale. |

Well in my situation, the car is specifically made for me and thus the 3 months wait, there was absolutely no car with the specs that I wanted at that time that was available.
When I went to the other dealer, I didn't bad mouth the first one at all, I told them my situation and what I was told was pretty much "well we wouldn't do this, we don't know why they can't give you a vin number". The guy asked me what I wanted specifically and when to check what was in stock. Turns out they had one in Vancouver and one in Ottawa but they cannot sell it to me for the price that I negotiated, buy if I were willing to pay "a couple thousand more" they can get it for me in one day. They also told me they sold "3-4 after I bought mine and the all got it already". I'm not sure if it was a sales pitch or whatever because they told me in a hush-hush, friend to friend manner because they weren't allowed to steal business from another dealer, especially after I placed my order. My issue is that I've already waited for 8 weeks, they did say 8-10 weeks so I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt for the remaining 2 weeks but I'm not feeling too good about the situation, seeing as they did get a new shipment and there IS 2 cars available that I'm sure they can get for me right away if they wanted to + all the bs they fed me. |

I put down $2000 as a deposit, I'm paying for the car in cash.
They did give me the shipping number and the printout also says that the car was made in April (I placed my order on the last day of February). I have no idea how long it takes to make the car, how long it takes to get here from Japan, where the car currently is, or what I can do with the shipping number. The printout looks like it was fabricated on the spot too, just to stop me from bothering them. That plus they way the kept the VIN a secret and their business practices really makes me nervous about the whole situation. |
