2010 Coupe Production?
I'm considering the 370Z (still vaselating between the coupe and the upcoming roadster), but have a few questions for the forum: 1) When will the coupe production and/or orders shift to the 2010 model year (or has it already)? 2) Why did Nissan choose not to insulate the underside of the hood (as is the practice on most modern cars)? 3) What is the consensus of order time-to-delivery on this forum, and does it vary much by color/options, et al?
I'm somewhat enamored with the new Z, but haven't fully determined exactly what I want, or when to buy it. Visited a dealer yesterday, and all was good with 8 370s in stock, but none equipped to my preferred specs (Touring with auto, non-Nav and non-Sport). Since there is not much changing for 2010 the way you want it equipped, the only difference will be slightly different color selection, and a probable price increase.

I have actually been trying a get a solid red touring w/ black int fully loaded sport pkg forever! the last dealership the saleperson tried selling me on a silver base model. I was so mad I have currently only been calling rather than taking the time to go look. But I was told that the 2009 models are done being manufactured and the 2010 should be here around october.

Everything with these cars is becoming a series of compromises. Finding an 09 with the exact color and equipment you want is challenging. It's wait and wait for the 2010 or perhaps bending a little on the 09 that is available.

Do you think prices of the 2009 will start going down with 2010s just around the corner?
I have been looking for a Base + sports package + 6mt but if a touring + sports package is the right price (2009 leftover) I may jump on that |

I doubt 09 prices will go down, because they will be less than the 2010 for essentially the same car. What is sure to go down is availibility of certain trim combinations.

I have the coupe w/out the sports and I absolutely love it. I've never tried the synchro-rev match before, but heard that it's pretty awesome. I say drive both of them and see if that extra 3 grand is worth it or not. Either way, it's still a Z34.

For me, aside from the cost of the Sport Pkg., I actually like the base 18-inch wheels more than the 19-inch "Ray" wheels (most will no doubt disagree), and there's a ride-comfort/handling trade off to boot. That said, I've yet to test-drive, so I maintain an open mind.
Going back to my original post...no one answered my question #2 - "Why did Nissan choose not to insulate the underside of the hood (as is the practice on most modern cars)?" One of the few review criticisms I've read for the new Z is that the engine sound is a bit raucous. An industry-typical layer of under-hood, sound-deadening material would likely fix this at little cost and/or weight compromise. Anyone have an opinion as to why Nissan chose to ignore this? |

I think the hood insulation was scrapped for weight savings. There is also no isulation in the wheel wells. This isn't a quiet ride, but it is a sports car.

Well, I imagine that would make the engine bay even hotter, and quite a few here don't like the oil temps when the car is pushed as is. John |
