Ordering your 2013 Z.
I searched and didn't quite find anything related to this.
So, I'm looking into getting a 2013 Midnight Blue Z base + sport 6MT. There are none of these in Arizona, at all. Dealership1 tells me, "Oh yeah, we can order one for you with a $500 refundable deposit." which is consistent with what I've read from others on this site. Dealership2 tells me that, "No Nissan dealership in Arizona can do an order like this. What we can do (and the other dealership is probably going to do) is take the deposit and wait until a Midnight Blue Z base + sport 6MT 370Z comes in." I didn't have time to go back to the original dealership and get more information on the process, but does anyone have any information on the deposit/ordering process with Nissan? Dealership2 did say that a Vegas dealership had a 2012 Monterrey Blue base + sport 6MT, but I would have to be okay with them flying someone out there and driving it back from Vegas (who are, and I quote, "A bunch of ********.") - putting 350-400mi on my brand new car. I immediately declined that option. |

Some dealers will just take your money and will wait for an allocation that opens up. Some asks for $500 or $1K. Anything above that, I wouldn't give my business there. Heck, I won't even give more than $500 if I were you.
When I ordered mine, I was told by the online sales guy that I would have to put a deposit. I went to the dealership and he started filling out the ordering system and didn't ask for my deposit. He said that once it goes through then he would ask me to come in to bring my deposit. Few days later, the order was approved and he didn't ask me to come in to bring my deposit. Waited almost 3 months to get the thing. Ordered fourth week of Oct 2011 and it arrived 3rd week of Jan 2012. Good luck! |

8-10 weeks for a 6mt base+ sport, magma red. That is what the dealership just told me. He couldnt find any 6mt in 1500 mile radius of michigan. He found quite a few 7AT though.

I got word from Pinnacle Nissan (they used to be on the forums here, not sure if they're still active) and they said it was possible. Then, a few hours later got back to me that one rolled off the truck (base + sport 6MT), just couldn't tell me the color. |

I imagine infiniti ordering is similar to nissan. Ordered mid october, got it exactly 2 months later, mid dec. They had a hell of a deposit, my trade in. I believe they modified an existing order already in the pipe line (but not production) rather than start a whole new one.

Just thought I'd chime in with my experience ordering my Z.
I went to a local Nissan dealer (Nelson Nissan) in mid January this year and put $500 toward ordering my then 2012 370Z (I wanted Pearl White + Persimmon, which I couldn't locate anywhere in the extended tri-state area). It was explained to me that an actual order would be placed, but that they would keep their eyes out for any similar Z's that showed up in a reasonable radius (this was a red flag - just didn't realize at the time). After reading on the forums about the process, I began to get suspicious when nearly two months in they couldn't provide my order number. They kept calling me with nearby Z's that weren't what I wanted - all the while saying that the order was still in effect. After getting blown off several times ("Hey, I'm with a customer, but I'll get you the order number first thing Monday...") I finally called my salesman and demanded my order number - he promptly handed the phone to the sales manager who immediately went into this lecture on how "you can't order a Nissan anymore, you just have to keep an eye on inventories and get lucky - I'll have a rep from Nissan Distribution call you tomorrow to explain this..." Being armed with information from dealers on this forum, I called him out on his BS - they refunded my $500 the next day. A couple days later (now in mid-March) I went to another dealer in town (Jackie Cooper Nissan) and placed the same order for $500. The order was placed the first week of April. During this wait they switched over to 2013 production, which delayed me a little further. My salesman provided periodic updates on my order without me asking, including the order number, VIN, and anticipated delivery date. The ordering process is purposely cloaked in a lot of mystery to the consumer, as with much of the car buying process - but there are reputable dealers out there willing to get you the exact car you specify. |

Hmm... this thread now has me worried. Supposedly Power Nissan Chandler has an order in for me .. but they haven't even billed me for the deposit and it has been a bit over a week.
I'm going to have to contact the dealership and make sure I get an order number and that all is well. I really want to trust them.. they've been upfront about everything.. but I'm so leery of trusting any car salesmen. So much lying. Sigh. |

Walter @ Pinnacle in Scottsdale showed me a list of orders he had already done and such, so I'm confident that if one can't be shipped from Cali (closest place that has what I'm looking for) then it can be ordered. However, he explained to me that an order would go in on the first through third of Oct. and building would start in the first week of Nov. It's possible that they finish early to mid. Nov., but if it's finished in late Nov. I probably wouldn't see the car until the second week of January, because the car would be shipped to America, but would sit in the shipping yard until they reopen (Closed 12/15 - 1/4). Hopefully I can get the one that's shipped, if it's still there when my refi. is done at the end of this month. |

Hope you can find what you want without too much waiting! This waiting is really killing me... the closest one to Phoenix in the configuration I wanted is 400 miles away. I'd have to pay shipping to get it here.. and likely another shipping fee for whatever my dealer ended up trading to get my car. =|
Sooo.. waiting for them to build mine, instead. Faster, Nissan! Faster!! |

Sorry if I contributed to your doubt. I received my order # about a month after my order was placed - but my order went in just as they were switching to 2013 production.
As for a dealer trade/transport, everything is negotiable. If they have legitimately placed your order they might be less than enthusiastic about that though. Just be firm in requesting the info you are due. The wait is excruciating, but there's nothing like picking up the car that was built for you (and knowing no one else has test driven it). Got my order number today! =] They also told me it will be built in October. I hope it'll be early on in October so it still has time to get here by the start of November.
How long does it take to build a Z anyway? |
