Found a certified base 370z with upgraded heated and leather seats...should I?
My fiance and I have been looking for quite a while to find a decent 370Z. We really wanted the Touring because of the sound system and the heated seats but we just can't find one with the right price. We found a really well priced base 2011 370Z with 12k miles. Its certified and the dealer upgraded the seats to leather and heated. What other things besides the sound system are involved with the Touring? I understand that the Touring has 8 speakers instead of 4. Would it be just as good to upgrade the 4 speakers aftermarket? Will 4 upgraded speakers (spending ~$500) be just as good as the 8 speakers that come with the Touring? Are there any other options that the Touring has that are really worth having? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT: Also, it doesn't come with nav. Would it be worth asking them to upgrade the nav or would it be better to get an after market one? Is there an aftermarket nav that's better than the OEM one, goes in that same spot and looks just as slick - or more so? Thanks. Last edited by Cagan; 08-17-2012 at 11:22 PM. |

You can't install the OEM? Which is considered the best nav? We really want to fit it in the top cubby where the OEM one goes, as opposed to where the audio panel is. We don't want to have to look down every time we want to see the screen - it'd be much better @ eye level and if its receded into the cubby it will be protected from glare. We'd really like a nav system that we could plug an iPhone / iPad into and be able to have it mimic the screen. It'd be great if the passenger could watch movies / tv shows from the iPhone / iPad while on a road trip. That way the driver (usually me) can listen to it and keep it somewhat in my side vision. Is that possible?

If you want the factory nav your going to have to get a z with it, you would have to replace a great deal of stuff to the point it would not be worth it to get the stock nav installed. Basically it can not be done. Second a lot of people will chime in saying that the bose system is actually worse than the base system. I agree. And no matter which one you get a new head unit and a set of aftermarket speakers will blow both systems out of the water. My advice get the upgraded heated eats if you want them and invest in a good aftermarket system. If you search the audio section you will find a lot of threads asking what to get. That is where I would start. Also here is some more info on the bose system, pretty big pain to upgrade. What to know about Bose

Find one with factory nav and the sport package. If you skimp on those two items youll regret the decision imo and in many others opinions. The sport package is worth it for the rims alone and the factory navi looks soooooooo much better.

I think the base stereo comes with only 2 speakers not 4.

My wife and I agreed that for us the cubby just didn't look right. We sucked it up and found a loaded used model (Sport/Touring with nav) Never looked back As for watching video most/all OEM systems prevent this while moving unless you hack the unit. Yeah, a big FU to all us consumers in the name of litigation avoidance. Not sure if this system is easy to defeat or not. I personally see no reason for a video to be playing while driving. If the passenger is that bored: 1. Drive harder: wake them up 2. Give them an iPad - b Last edited by bvl; 08-20-2012 at 11:25 PM. |

Thanks for all the advice. If we get one with factory nav I'm sure my fiancée will jail break it to play video while driving(he has a lot of experience in that area and really like watching videos on the road), and I'll have him post how he did it on the forums.

For me, I don't need to have the best sound system in my Z, just something decent that I can listen to my music with. I've heard both the base stereo and the Bose (which I have in my Z) and the Bose is clearly better. It's good enough for me and I don't need to mod it to be happy with the sound. This isn't the case with the base stereo. It sounds pretty shitty and I would definitely have to upgrade it to be happy. Sure I'd end up with something better than the Bose after upgrading, but that's just less extra money I have to spend. Yes I did spend some extra money getting the touring package, but it was for more than just the sound system. |
