Price Check on 2009 Base+Sport 6MT
So after lurking for years and years now, I'm ready to finally make a move and pick up a Z of my own. I've found a 2009 Base with Sport Package 6MT with 25,xxx mi for $25,988. Does this sound about right? I can see no obvious defects on the car, and personally I think the mileage is outstanding considering it's 3-4 years old. The car is a few states over from me, so it would be next week before I could get it. Hopefully it's still there and I can stop lurking and be an active participant on the board!

I would offer $23-24k ....it's not a bad deal. I got a super deal ..kinda lucky too i guess, that's what I paid with touring included and half the miles

Not a bad deal, I'm asking $25k for my car but I have almost 10,000 less miles.

I'm just a little uneasy on letting this one slip past me. I'm moving to Europe very soon and I'll need to get the car before the USAF ships all of my stuff over. I've been looking for a while and this is the only one I've found that satisfies everything that I'm looking for. I talked with the internet salesperson and he didn't seem very willing to move on the price, and I'm sure the fact that he knows I have to drive a few hundred miles for the car isn't helping me either. I'm not sure of any way to knock some off the price. I think I'll find examples of similar vehicles with lower prices and see if that helps me any.

Make a offer of $22 or $23k and see if the dealer bends, I think you have a little wiggle room, if it's the car you want and has the options you want, then go for it! You can save more playing the waiting game or getting the car you want now at near market value

So jus last Saturday I picked up my Black 09 370z 6speed manual in NorCal. It has 24,xxxmi The dealers asking price was 27,999 and the best they could do was 26,302 which they said was wholesale price, so if you can get it at 25k I think thats not a bad deal, but dont forget taxes and fee's cuz that was almost and extra 3k just there. I know your frustration because I just wanted to buy the first one I saw, but continue to shop around until your happy and always be ready to walk away. Good Luck!

So I talked with the salesman today and taxes are 9% and there is a "dealer fee" of $599, so I'm looking at a total of $28,859. What exactly is this dealer fee? Also, why am I paying the dealer taxes? Shouldn't I pay taxes to the DMV when I register it, not the dealer?

I think what the salesperson did was add tax to their asking price to show me what I'm paying total for the car after registering, not what I owe him at the time of purchase. Im still confused on this dealer fee though.
EDIT: After researching some more, if the car is financed in any way, the dealer has to collect taxes and then remit them to the State of LA for me. On my receipt it'll be noted that I paid dealer taxes and then I won't have to pay them again when I register. Now all I need to do is chip away at the dealer fee and I should be set.

I called the dealer, and I offered to pay the asking prices and taxes, but told him to drop the dealer fee, and we have a deal. I also made it clear to him that this is not the only car I'm looking at in the area (in reality it is, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him), so hopefully that will convince him to waive this dealer fee. Are dealers typically willing to waive this fee on used vehicles, especially when the buyer has cash in hand? They can't seriously expect me to pay $599 to vacuum the car and wash it.
