Default Thoughts on built to order?

Hey all,

First time caller, long time listener

What are your thoughts on a built to order straight from Japan? I understand it takes roughly 2 months, but reason I asked is because what I am exactly looking for; dealerships have been having an issue locating a car to meet these needs and it seems that they would rather find something from another location than go through the hassle of processing an order.

Maybe they make a bigger buck on what's already out there, rather than importing?

I think the point is the dealer is trying to make a quick buck at the end of the day. So if it takes a week max to get a Z from 1,000 miles away they would rather do that then wait 2-3 months then make a sale. Dealership trying to close a deal as fast as possible.

If they don't have what you want locally, they will only look inside their region for it. And if it's not in your region what you're looking for. You have to options, accept what they do have, or go without.

Since I don't agree with that either, I would order what you want. That lets you know that you are getting Exactly what you want, it's coming straight to you, and no one else will have it in between. I like this. I picked mine up the day the dealership had it on the lot 3 hours after it was pulled off the truck. I don't waste time dealing with 'well we found one in XXXXXXX state that is close to what you want, would you be happy with that??' No. Because you'll just end up sneaking in your moving fees. Build me mine. kthxbai.

How long did it take from the time the order was completed, to the time the car was on the lot?

I got lucky that one with my parts was already in transit to the country when I submitted the order, so only 1 month. But they said it would be 2 months at maximum.

Caveat to that is that was before the Japan Tsunami. I dunno if they are back to the same order response speed as they were then or not.
