Invoice is a fair deal, like you said at the end of the day everybody is struggling even the dealers. So don't think that we are all going to just give cars away and make zero dollars, we won't be around. I can understand if they aren't willing to give you a quote, but we do have to make money to stay in busniess.

i agree but there is a difference between making money and tryng to take advantage of the customer in this tough economy. they should be happy people are actually walking into dealerships and looking at it. Also they try to tell me oh we have great sales im getting my car july. i was there april they have the same exact 370z in the lot. they havent even sold one. The manager trys to tell me oh we sell 10 370z a month BS. do they think im stupid? or what? 1k above invoice is ridicolous. i wouldent settle for nothing less than invoice.

I can't say I blame them for trying. It's their job to try and get a customer to buy it at sticker. They gamble on the fact that if they are too stubborn, you'll walk away. But if they call your bluff, they add 2-3 grand on their sale. It's all part of the game.
The good thing is, you know they are struggling for sales and you know that a bunch of people on this site have gotten at least invoice. So, you know it's doable.
Bottom line, if you don't get a good deal, walk away. There are tons of dealers out there and if you have to drive a decent amount for a good deal, that just means you will have a head start on breaking in your Z when you drive it back home.

I went to a dealer in Folsom, CA and they offered me 12K trade-in and the rest on 12.95% APR because of my short sale. I told them that I'm selling the car for ~$16500 on Craigslist and wanted me to sign the loan. They said they were doing me a favor because 1) I was able to qualify for the loan given my situation and 2) they would give me 5 days to sell my car or they take it in. I walked away at that point. Keep in mind my 03 350Z has about $10K of stuff in it and KBB is about $14K IF stock.

Damn stealerships... trying to get my car for $12K. F no.

Is 14,000 the kbb value for private sale or trade in? The 10K in stuff you added really means nothing. I've learned that in the motorcycle world. It really only means anything if the stuff you added is the exact stuff that a potential buyer would want, but even if it is, the buyer probably won't show their hand and tell you. Can you take the stuff off and sell it on your own? I'm sure the dealership would still give you 12k for it even if it was stock.

If you're upside down on your current loan then they aren't going to deal. If your credit is decent then sign up with PenFed and get a second loan at 3.99% for the new car and sell the current one over the next 30 days.

The $12K trade-in sounds about right for a loaded 03 350Z, mods don't apply well to resale unless you can find the right buyer unfortunately. You could potentially do better with a private sale, however a private buyer may be concerned that you don't have enough cash to clear the title. Even if they write their check directly to the loan holder they need to know that you can pay the balance in cash.

14K is KBB value and 12K is trade in

I'm not sure what you're referring to but the 350Z is paid off. The house was on short sale and that deal is done. I'll probably either have to return to stock or sell the car as-is.

I get it now. You had to do a short sale on your home and that dinged your credit pretty badly. Considering the situation I think they are giving you a fair deal. I know 13% isn't the world's best rate, but it isn't awful considering your situation and the way banks look at lending today. There are people looking at 22% and on a pretty crummy selection of vehicles. As long as it is a stright up simple interest loan with no balloon payment at the end and no early pay off penalty. 12K is kbb trade in value for your car, and they are offering 100% of it. Most dealers use NADA and it isn't as generous as KBB. I'm sure they would still give you the 12K if you took off some of the extras. They usually don't figure those into a trade in value. I would consider taking off the extras and putting them up for sale on their own.

Ah ok, sorry about that. Take off the parts that have resale value and return to stock, you will get more money that way.

I agree with the above post, I had a race bike, worth 7,000 and i put over 7,000 in mods on it.

sold it for 6,000. mods = negative value

still no luck with any local dealerships. I went to every single dealership in the city of Vegas (4) and they all either are unhelpful or cant answer my questions.

I was SOO close to buying at the last dealership and asked for Invoice on a fully loaded Z and they said they couldnt get the invoice price - that they'll call me back on tuesday (memorial day crap), and its Wed and still no call......

also I cant get Mike from boardwalk nissan (the370z's authorized dealer) to answer any emails or phone calls, any idea whats up with him?

True.

My experience on the trade value with my Subaru. With mods, $2K under KBB average. Back to stock, $1.5K over KBB average with pending profit from the mod sales.

Even at invoice, the dealer can make $1000, with the HB (holdback). On a $37,279 invoice, the holdback is $1048.
