Default Dealer wont budge - 07 tour/sport/nav/ 40,000

I went in to this dealer in person, and looked at a white 09 370z touring w/ sports and nav, and carpets.

the price was 41,600, After looking at it and deciding I want this car, I told the salesperson that the price was much too high for me and i'd like to work something closer to 36,500.

she looked at me and said "we have no control over the prices, Nissan USA set the prices".

Obviously I left after that comment.

So anyway I then emailed them, and said the same thing, i'll pay closer to 36,500, hoping the dealer will counter with at least invoice, but the dealer said, "no, we can only do 1500 above invoice",
So I emailed them back and said "can you at least match invoice?"

forgot to mention, they said invoice was about 37,500.

now they wont reply back to me, i think they are fed up with me, hah. am i pushing it by asking for invoice??? I asked lower than invoice at first so they will counter lower, I dont want to ask invoice then they counter above invoice.

-edit- forgot to mention is a 6MT.

ONE MORE QUESTION, the dealer told me the LAST DAY YOU CAN ORDER A 09 370Z IS JUNE 5TH, is this true or absolute BS to get me to feel pressured??? I dont want to pay premium for a 2010 just cuz its "newer".

Did you check our dealer inventory section? We currently have two dealers (one in CA and other in st. louis, MO). Shoot them an email and see what they can do. I personally believe the BEST way to buy your new car is buy it out of state and then drive back. This way you learn a lot about your new car.

Good luck with the search.

Sounds like you may need a new dealer. If you want to get invoice price, see this thread:

sorry, typo, hit the wrong key, i noticed that too but i wasn't able to change the title after i posted it.

I went with the Admin's recommendation and contacted the N. CA dealer and, so far so good, im getting the exact same vehicle listed above for thousands less than my local dealer offered. Wont be long before I have it in my garage at this rate!

Seriously, a lot of you guys think that Nissan dealers are desperate to whore out 370s. They're not Accords or Camrys that sell 200-300K annually.

You went too far bro. I'm a former car salesman, and if they don't contact you back, forget it.

$1,000 over invoice is a good deal. $1,500 is OK. Don't expect Nissan stores to act desperate to whore out a 370. There are people who got a lot more money than you that'll let these dealerships make some profit.

My suggestion: visit another Nissan store, don't mention "invoice, invoice, invoice." You're trying to make yourself seem like you know what you're doing, but you don't (with all due respect). Say they do let you have it at invoice, they'll rape you on the back-end in APR, accessories i.e. $400 wheel locks, $1,500 scotch guard, $3,000 extended warranty, $1,700 Lojack, etc. And you know what? You're going to pay interest on all these accessories so they'll more than make their money back even if the front-end was skinny or at invoice.

The $400 wheel locks "that'll only cost you $15 extra per month, think about it, you don't want your wheels stolen, do you?" Let's see $15 x 60 = $900. Damn, $900 for wheel locks that were priced at $383! That's like 2.5x the original cost. No, these are really $40 wheel locks disguised as $383 ones.

This is an example of back-end rape.

Hmmm.. Just find another dealership. Send out emails with the invoice price as the ONLY price you will buy the Z for. I went to my local dealership that had the exact Z that I want (used nissausa.com to find it) and said I will only sit and talk if I get invoice pricing. The sales person said "i don't know". After I heard those exact words I literally got up and said "Thanks for your time, I am going to another dealer." He told me to wait so he can go talk to his manager. My girlfriend and I sat down for 20 mins and the sales person came back with 38k, mind you this is for a PG Touring / sport / illum kicks / floor and trunk mats. I once again told him i'm not playing games, no deal and left. My girlfriend checked out the Z once more only to allow time for the GM to come out and talk about the price. I told him "I really like the car, so I can do $400 above invoice" 20 mins later, he gave it to me.

Dealers are desperate now even with a new car like the 370z. You can get invoice (or $400 above), you just have to be patient. Respectfully to dealers, its their loss if they cannot sell the car to you, you will just bounce to the next nissan dealer who will probably have a better understanding of the car market crisis. Another dealer will want to make $400 bucks instead of nothing. Some won't take the risk of keeping a car and hoping to sell it with a unreasonable mark up.

Keep looking!!! Be patient and good luck!

The way I see it is this, if they are making a profit on these cars, they will continue to do so, but if they are not, they will drop the price to "move" cars.

Your probably right, I went too far for my local dealers - my local dealers must be making a good profit and selling a decent amount of 370z's. That would explain why I had to resort to out of state to get the deal I wanted.

Why is it that person I spoke with in CA made the first offer below invoice, I didnt even ask for invoice yet? And He told me if I ordered one from factory and waited, he'd give me an even better discount as apposed to getting one thats in a dealer lot somewhere in CA.

while you have a point, nobody wants to spend more money, the dealer knows this. Its human nature to get the best deal out of things, this applies to both the dealership and customers. One is just better versed at it than the other most of the time.

Sounds like you're still a car salesmen and don't know the fine art of negotiation. I paid 1k under. What do you have to say about that sales guy?

Agreed, in these times I wouldn't settle for anything less than invoice. I paid $600 under invoice and didn't even have to fight for it, I'm sure I could have squeezed them for more if I really wanted to but I was being nice. 3 years ago you would have been paying $1K over invoice but not now. If you don't like haggling just find a dealer willing to sell it on the VPP program.

^ i agree with that guy. i worked with 10 dealers before choosing the one i placed my order with. this one dealer kept it real. i got the car a couple bucks under invoice. other dealers quoted 300, 600, 1000 over invoice. give me a break, i don't care what car it is... everyone's struggling and at the end of the day, it's a nissan. some of these dealers act like it's a one-of-a-kind car.

at the end of one of the emails i got the manager said "so what's your offer? keep in mind this is a limited production sports car and there are no rebates". i shot back with my offer and a "please keep in mind nissan sales were down 36% in april compared to last year". even at invoice, they make decent money. not only that, but if they're nice enough to work with me, i'll gladly refer people to them - customers they otherwise wouldn't have.
