Default what do you think of this vpp deal?

Just got back from a dealer. As expected, they don't have the spec I want and will have to work a deal with another dealer out of state. Besides wanting an upfront $500 deposit without even having the car, they gave me a ballpark price of 31,734. This is a base +sport 6MT and they said depending on what options are added it could be lower or higher. I come up with a price of 31807 invoice for base +sport + all options except nav +695 (old dest. fee). I know they aren't giving me exactly what options yet until they come up with a real car and vin#. I'm not willing to let them have someone drive my car in from out of state and they said that's the only way they can do it otherwise I would have to pay to get it trucked in. I even asked what if I drove to whatever dealership they found and got oy and they said they couldmy do it. What do you guys think? Obviously I'm going to try another dealer tomorrow. This dealer claims he can have it in a week.

I would get a committed price from them, doesn't sound like they are intrested in your business. Also, they are just taking your money and trying to take you off the market so you don't shop around. I wouldn't do business with them, go find another dealer in town. And about the driver ask the dealership who does their dealer trades, because most dealers use retired vets who are 60-70 years old. Which you should be in good hands their. They are very careful and slow drivers. Not trying to stereotype just my experince. The price seems fair, but that is getting to be a rare car to find. Hope that helps.

Yeah I plan to shop around more dealers. I have been to one other just to test drive last month but now I'm in serious mode with my financing squared away and all. As for who's driving, there was one younger kid, probably mid 20s that said he drove to pick one up...Even the fleet mgr said if I want him to personally go, he will do it...He's about my age, early-mid 30s... I told them flat out I don't trust anyone with that. I guess I'll hitup another dealer tomorrow!

Fusz is correct about Retired vets in the 60-70 age group driving dealer trade cars. I retired from Caterpillar and am a Vietnam vet and have been driving dealer trade cars for the last 6 years for Miles Nissan for some mad money. I also purchased a 370 a month ago and drove a dealer trade for it from a dealer in Indy. So feel safe with what he said about us old guys. Young guys can not afford to do these drives since the dealers don't pay a living wage to do this job

LOL I hear ya. The fleet Mgr and the salesman I was dealing with told me they would go get the car. I don't feel comfortable trusting these guys to be honest. Like I said, one is mid 20's and the other mid 30s tops. I'm going to visit 2 more dealers tomorrow. If they tell me that they can get the car quick and if they use the "ole vets" I'll be sold.

Just walked out of another dealer during my lunch. All the numbers were good until they busted out the sale sheet. $299 window etching and $299 documentation fee. I told them it's BS and said I will take my business elsewhere unless they remove those fees. I swear you think you get a cut and dry # when you do the VPP method and I have my own financing and they still try and bend ya over...

And for the record... Under documentary fee was:
"Administrative/Clerical work"
"Computer time"

What a joke... Oh and it was PRINTED on the sales sheet...So "that means the dealer is required to charge me that"... What a crock... I can't believe dealers still pull that card.

When I was 17-18 years old I used to pick up dealer trades for a dealership I worked for. If it was a sports car I'd never driven I'd definitely test the car out ... they didn't pay me enough to care and I was young.

I'm with you, I'd cringe at someone beating the car up. But hey, theres nothing to say the car wasn't already beat up in test drives.
