Kbb.com lists the trade-in value at 33K. Why are you thinking of selling?

Yeah I noticed that. But they are offering 30K for it. I will haggle some and try to meet in-between. Unless someone here wants to pick it up.

Selling because I want to upgrade, to an M3. Only if the numbers plays out. I'm not going to give the car away

$30,000 is a good trade in price for your car.

No reason to accept less than blue book value but check NADA pricing also. Average trade is $31,600 and clean trade (sounds like it applies to you) is $33,050. Don't take any less but be realistic about the condition of your vehicle.

Do it one step at a time. Have you already negotiated the price of the M3?

KBB figures can be all over the place. I think $30k for your car is fair for a trade-in. You might be able to eek out a little more. JeffBlue had the same specs as you I think and got around 30k on his trade.

Yeah the car is MINT. Only touched rain once and used only as a weekend car. Never tracked or raced. I would be happy with $32,000-$33,000. BUT doubt it.

This is the first round of negotiations, including the M3 price.

I appreciate all the input, just wasn't sure what everyone is considering "Fair"
If the numbers don't work out in my favor, I'm just walking away.

You really shouldnt be going in negotiating different parts of the deal between each other. Each is a separate transaction unto itself. First, negotiate the price of the M3 all by itself. Do not factor in any trade in value, discounts, rebates, etc etc. Pretend you are buying the car with cash, and get the best value for the car by itself you can. Then repeat the same process for your trade in. Add the two together, and you have a final deal.

Also get your car appraised with carmax. They often offer better deals because they are a nationwide chain and can ship your car to any city for sale. If they can beat the dealer, then try to get the dealer to match the trade. If they wont match it, then get the dealer to add the difference to your loan so you can still sell the car with carmax, and pay off the difference with them. This way you get carmax's selling price rolled into the purchase price of your new car.
