Nismo SC
Hey guys, I got a quick question. I need some advice. I found a 2011 Nismo with 1000k on it supercharged by Stillen. It comes with a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty and a 5yrs/60,000k powertrain. All the dealership said it was supercharged and tuned by Stillen. This sounds like a good deal to me but I just wanted to get some opinions. I talked them to $43,000 out the door I am deployed overseas so it's tough to buy a car like this without having to see it and test drive it in person. This is exactly what I want and can afford it so I may snag it up and risk it

You could try asking someone who's automotive knowledge you trust to stop by and check it out/test drive it for you before signing over your deployment cash?

Unless I knew the full car history and the person who owned it, I would never buy a used car with an add on forced induction kit, especially for 40 large. You have no idea if the previous owner ever ran it lean, or did anything else that could show up in 10 miles or 10K miles.
Any warranty on the power train would have to be from Stillen, but does it transfer? Do you really want to deal with an aftermarket warranty should the engine need work? Or is the dealer saying they will warranty the power train? Sounds fishy to me. And to buy a car sight unseen and no test drive...this isn't a 4K beater you know will drive like a car...this is a sports car with specific look and feel. Get your car when you come back...and come back safe. - b Last edited by bvl; 10-17-2011 at 07:08 AM. |

It's best to at least drive it before laying down that much cash, but I know your circumstance probably prevents you from doing so. If you do go ahead with it, make sure the warranty is in writing and know exactly what it covers. If this one done at Stillen, they will likely have some sort of record on it. Maybe shoot those guys an e-mail asking about the car and any warranty coverage info. $43k out the door sounds pretty good considering how much going FI really cost to purchase and install.

Remember, if it's MFR Warranty they're transferring, there's no way Nissan would cover the repairs on this car due to aftermarket f/i.

Correct, power train would pretty much fall under Stillens warranty if transferable while the rest of the car would still be covered under Nissan.

Thanks for the input everyone. This is what the dealership said. It sounds like it's just the factory warranty? So...that mean's if anything goes wrong from the supercharger being on there they wont fix it? Here is what they said.
"The previous owner sold this 370z as well as GT-R back to us because of transfer to overseas assignment. Regarding the warranty you can obtain the info on nissan web sight (Nissanusa). For your peace of mind, you can send your own mechanic to check the vehicle for you or you can contact an idependent company to do the check for minimal fee on your behalf. Hope this gives you some ideas to verify what you are buying is worth what you're paying for. Good luck and look forward to hear from you." |

That sounds like an excellent deal, the Stillen SC comes with 3 year warranty. I would think that the Nissan warranty was ended with the SC and instead any engine issues would be taken care of by Stillen... I would think.
