Default Purchasing 370z in Dec.

Hi everyone,

I just registered to the forum but I have been reading many many posts from this site and it has been very helpful.

I will be looking into purchasing a 370z in December. I know Nov-Dec is a good time to make deals with the dealers but I was wondering if I should be asking for 2011 or 2012? I know the new model will have minor changes but if I do get 2011, will I be saving a lot? I mean if there are still dealerships with brand-new 2011 models, will I be able to purchase it well below invoice?

I was very close to buying a WRX about a month ago but due to some complications, I ended up not getting it. But what I realized from many dealerships is that they use the excuse of WRXs being "rare" and "hard-to-come-by" due to the tsunami in Japan and high demand. Is this the same case for 370z? And even if it's brand new, will 2011 370z considered a year "depreciated" since the new models will be coming out?

I am just confused because in Dec, the new models will be coming out and there would be more of 2012s than 2011s, so...technically the new models should be cheaper(?) since there are more of them.

I've read many posts on how to buy/negotiate the car, so I am aware of what I should be careful of and not to fall for dealers traps.

By the way, I still haven't decided whether or not I should get the sports package. I know they are well worth it for its price, but a couple of grand is a lot for me and I am fine with just the base model. I won't be racing or modding if anyone's wondering.

Hi welcome,

If you aren't going to mod or track your car, then you should be okay with a 2011. The 2012 comes with an oil cooler, and some other minor changes and options that Nissan offers. Read here: 2012 Option List Includes Dealer-Installed Performance

As for the pricing you should be able to get a base 2011 for around 33-35k OTD, I purchased my 2011 in July, the prices were still competitive then, so actually you can probably do better if you are planning to buy in December, you should be able to get away with a pretty good deal, like lower 30s. Now you can still try and get a base 2012 as pricing is not that much different. All in all if you are planning to just buy your car to drive not modding or racing (although you will be tempted to mod), and are working with a budget I would say go for a 2011, nothing much has changed for 2012.

If you want some more info on the 2012 here: 2012 Nissan 370Z to Start at $32,210 - WOT on Motor Trend

Thanks for the reply. I mean if i do any mods, it'd be window tinting and maybe putting a clearbra. I am planning on spending some money on cleaning products 'cause I will be hand washing it and stuff. I don't like to get swirls on my car.
Yes I am expecting OTD to be very close to 30k...but of course it wouldn't hurt it to be lower....
Are used cars a good idea? I know some say they would rather let someone else take the depreciation hit but I've had such a bad experience with used cars in general.

If you get a certified used car from a dealer you shouldn't have an issue, that way you are guaranteed that the manufacturer of the car has inspected it, and warranty can be carried on. But if you are going for 2011, the prices for used 2011 are pretty much the same as buying new, as they haven't depreciated much yet, now if you want to go used and buy a 2010, then you could probably find better deals.
