2011 Pricing
Guys,
Want to make a move on a 370z near the years end (obviously hoping for a better deal). I would be trading in my 04 Acura TSX auto w/nav but haven't decided if I want a base+sport or touring+sport (both manual). My plan was near the end of november or early december I contact dealers telling them I want a z for the following prices: base + sport for 22k otd touring + sport for 25k otd These numbers would take into account the trade in value, am i being realistic here? Would you guys expect the end of year thing to help me out as much as I am hoping? I'm in florida btw. Thanks, Pete |

Yeah, w/o knowing what your trade is worth, kinda hard to figure pricing...
Go to KBB, NADA and Edmunds and figure out what your trade is worth (with all the options you have, condition, location, etc.). If you take an average of those 3, you're normally pretty close. Then go to ebay and look at recent sales of similar mileage cars and see how close they are. Should be about $1500-$2000 over what a dealer will offer you. When buying, selling, or trading a car, all the info is out there, you just have to do your homework. Anyone else remember the little Kelly Bluebooks? My dad had dealer friends when I was growing up ('70s) and I can remember him borrowing them. Those were ONLY for dealers at the time - now anyone can get that info (along with what a dealer pays for the car). There are no mysteries in cars anymore - it's all out there. |

Good point, I should have mentioned that I had already some research for the trade in on my car.
KBB 10600 Edmunds 8740 NADA 9800 Average 9700 I was under the impression that since I am selling my car to purchase a more expensive car on their end, that the dealer wouldn't worry about making so much on the trade in because they will be making money on the 370z. Looking at classifieds it doesn't seem out of the question for a dealer to re-sell the car at 11-12k. That being said, assuming 10k that would put me at: 32k otd for a base + sport manual 35k otd for a touring + sport manual. |

I don't think your asking prices are "shockingly low". They are on the low side, but definitely not the lowest. It'll really depend on how much your trade-in is worth. Usually
I take my car to CarMax and get it appraised just to see how much it's worth, since it's free and takes less than 30 min. I am currently looking to buy a 370z Base WITHOUT the sports package. My original plan was waiting until end of November or December, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask around. My offer was around 27.5k and was expecting no more than 29k as the OTD price. I just checked online the invoice price for 2011 370z coupe Manual and went 1k lower. I did think it was pretty low but you never know. I just got an email from a salesman and his response was: "If the right prices are the ones you offered earlier, then remove me from consideration. Your earlier offers quite frankly were insulting...I have no interest. Thanks but no thanks." I know I was low-balling a bit but I would never do business with a salesman like that. I just simply removed him from my e-mail. |

You probably want to be at invoice minus the $10,000, so your numbers sound a little high depending on options. |

@fat, lol that is pretty funny. I'm like you, wouldn't even talk to the guy anymore. If you look at truecar.com, in my area the car you are talking about could be bought for 28.4k (including destination fee), so if you added taxes onto that you are sitting just above 30k (depending are where you are at). Why wouldn't he come back with a number like 31k to continue the negotiation process?
@scott, my numbers are otd so I don't think they are too high, am I missing something? You are probably right about the money being made but I have a hard time believing many people know the actual money being made by a dealer on a new car. Its more complicated than just invoice, incentives and the price you paid. They also have to figure in the cost to keep the car on the lot. |

Ha yeah I would say that is a fair bet. I have a strong dislike for dealerships in general, i always feel like i am getting screwed. I mean you are going in there about to spend a lot of money, they could at least be fair.
