Hi all,

I will be purchasing a 2011 370z in the coming weeks and can't decide on which one to buy. The ideal car would be 6mt/sport pgk but, none seem to be available in that trim. With the recent tragic events in Japan it seems that back orders on 370z's are being delayed with no actual ETA. The 370z's I found in SoCal are either 7at/sport pkg or 6mt/base with no options.

I really want 6mt but, is it worth it in base trim? I will use the car for daily driving and occasional track use. My current car is a 2008 s2000. Any help would be appreciated! TIA :D

The Sport package is a great buy and very worthwhile accessory package.

But the syncorev is worthless in a auto.

I would expand your search radius and have the dealer bring it in for you or you could drive/fly to them and then drive your new (and what features you wanted) baby back home.

Syncro-Rev worthless in a auto? Could you elaborate on your analysis??? First of all, be clear. SRM is in the manual. DRM is in the auto. They are the same program but have different names in the different transmissions. By not stating the correct names, you will confuse newbs who are in this area looking for info.
And how you figure DRM is worthless in the auto? NISSAN has been using this technology in autos 5 years before using it in manual transmissions. DRM is the technology that made a slushbox worth the look. Its what makes manual mode in the auto so close to a true manual. DRM IN AN AUTO ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO HEEL AND TOE WITHOUT A CLUTCH & BRAKE TECHNIQUE. There was never a way to heel and toe an auto until DRM. It works when you upshift as well. Nissan would most likely not have made SRM in manual if DRM wasn't so SUCCESSFUL in the auto.
In manuals you are actually defeating the purpose of driving stick when using SRM. The mastering of heel and toe is what most manual drivers take pride in. SRM takes the work out of heel and toe. Thus making you look like something you're not.

Know what you are talking about before you say things like that to newbs.

If you are just going to do quarter mile straights on the track. I say get the auto, its :03 seconds faster. But if you are doing autox. Get the manual. You need more control. Canyon runs. Both are equally gratifying. Manual mode in the AT does fine in canyons and twisties as so does the 6m.
In the end buy what you find enjoyable and most affordable. Both are very good transmissions for different reasons.

well OP, if you don't mind a little bit of a drive Fontana Nissan has exactly what you're looking for and plenty of them. I would at least suggest taking a look at what they have to offer if anything else.

Saca, if you are going to spend what you plan for your car, you might as well go with what you really want; a few on the forum got their second choice pick to end up trying to trade the car for the other transmission. You stated that you were going with a 2011 6MT Base, you could get better deal if you went with a fully loaded showroom 09 or 10 6MT. :tiphat:

Fontana Nissan is great! Their lot has been my main focus but, they don't seem to have a 6mt base/sport pgk. They have a black 7at base/sport pkg which I might definitely consider but, I'm trying to get over the fact that I want 6mt. Thanks :tup:

I know!And I want it so bad! I've searched autotrader and have yet to find a 2011 6mt base/sport pkg. I even expanded the search to 500 miles and no luck :(. Thanks for the response!

Great points. I'm trying to consider all factors given the availability of the 370z and its just mind boggling. I believe that unless I wait it will come down to 7at base/sport pkg vs 6mt/base. The 6mt/base would be more affordable. Would it be as fun?

Very true. At first, I was looking for a pre owned my09 or my10 6mt base/sport pkg with under 20k miles. Then I realized that the price between a new and used 370z is only a few thousand. Fontana Nssan offers a 7yr/100k warranty on new vehicles that may be to catchy to pass up. Thanks :tup:

wow, somebody must have snagged up the last of the base/sport pkg ones they had in gunmetal a couple weeks back cause i know i saw a couple of base/sports in their inventory a couple weeks back or so lol/ in any case i believe they are due for another shipment of Z's in august since thats when the one i ordered from them will be coming in, but then again who knows, but good luck with your search OP, i hope you get what you're looking for :)

If you really want a 6mt then WAIT for a 6mt. I have heard sooooooo many people on and off this forum and others say they wish they would have waited for a 6mt. Dont settle or you are always gonna have the little voice in your head saying "dam I should have waited" As for the Sport Package its something that you could live with out and it probably wont bother you to much, but it is very much worth the price and unless you plan on putting bigger brakes (cause the base brakes stink) or bigger better tires (cause the base ones stink) a LSD (cause the optional LSD could be better, could you imagine what an open one is like) I say go with Sport

Mid-life crisis hit you kinda hard...have fun selling your DRM AT is just like a 6M and synchorev in a 6m is like a AT crap...you should have bought a G.

MT is always fun. In certain types of tracking, like auto x and complex circuits, the control is crucial from the 6mt. You save 1300 bucks as well. But my experience with the 7 at is you don't lose out on fun. Its a very capable transmission. In stock form its faster and shifts are ultra smooth on the paddles. The stick on th AT has a different behavior from the paddles. It shifts a little slower and the car has a retro jerky feel. I like it. It reminds me of the old days. When I need smoother more responsive shifts, I go to paddles. The auto is great in bad traffic. If you are in bad traffic often? The auto has more of an advantage to your quality of life. If it won't be your DD. The stick may have a more purist quality to your driving experience. I personally love the 7at though. Test drive em bro. Its the only way to be sure. :)

I've owned 2 G's and modded them already, thank you very much. The skyline is an excellent car, as is the the fairlady Z. I've been driving sports cars since the age of 14. I owned my first sports car at age 17. Have owned close to a dozen. I'm not quite there for midlife yet. Thank you very much for your concern though.

Funny thing, you still haven't elaborated why DRM is useless in the auto, where DRM originiated??? Give the OP some reasons why the DRM system fails in the CVT instead riding my jock for calling you out on your unsubstantiated opinion. Its even more hilarious when so called manual purists advocate for SRM. Its a form of AUTOMATION. :inoutroflpuke:

SYNCHRO REV MATCH. Advertised as blipping the throttle to the right rpm, the to make perfect downshifts. In asterisk it says, also works when upshifting. DRM is the exact same thing by function and definition. SYNCHRO is patented on the manual because nissan invented and is the. SOUL proprietor of this technology. DRM is shared tech. The only difference are the way the products are patented.

Again, why is DRM inferior to SRM? Elaborate.

Thanks for all the information guys. With the current availability I spotted a new 2011 white base manual 370z extremely close to home at a great price. I know sport package is amazing but, I'd rather have my preference of transmission over a package that I can hopefully live without. I'll keep this thread posted.

There were 4 or 5 6mt base+sport cars around the Bay Area a few weeks ago when I got mine. I was originally looking for a 6mt base+sport in white pearl but there were none in the western US supposedly. I liked gunmetal too and my local dealer (Sunnyvale Nissan) happened to have one ordered so I got that one. I found the dealers here were unwilling to give decent prices for vehicles they would have to ship in from far away dealers. If you expand your search you might be better off talking to those dealers directly rather than trying to get your local guys to bring it in. The guys at Sunnyvale Nissan were really great to deal with btw. Also, the sport package is a no-brainer. Don't settle for something you don't exactly want or it will bother you every time you look at it

So i went to Valencia Nissan this morning to inquire about the base 6mt 370z and ended up getting a great deal. The guys as Valencia Nissan are great! They really worked with me to get my payments exactly where I wanted them. Its a rather odd story because, they have the car that I bought in the mall across the street. I guess they are using it for advertisement or something. I will be taking delivery tomorrow morning after they drive it out of the mall and detail it. SUPER STOKED!

Thanks guys! I'm extra excited and probably wont be able to sleep tonight. I decided to op for the base 370z for two reasons. It was manual and the price was best for my financial situation. I am a full time student and and tuition for a University is not cheap! I'll post more pics when I get her :D

Congrats to you saca. My advice though, since you opted not to get the sport pkg and you want to do light tracking. I would highly recommend ordering the nissan brake kit as an accessory. You won't find a better BBK for the price. Its around $1300 for front and rear. You can look on e bay for a used kit. Maybe runs around $900 used. I could be wrong as I haven't looked up the part in a long time. But last I checked it was around there.
