Buy the 2011? Or Wait for the 2012?

I've been shopping around for a Z and while doing so, I came across a bunch of articles saying that the 2012 will be refreshed similar to what happened to the 350z. Maybe even an engine upgrade due to the release of Infiniti's IPL? Or maybe a new hood with a power dome! Anyway, post your speculations below and even advice on whether to wait or not :)

there was a thread on here somewhere that had the information on 2012 370z's from Nissan themselves. and there will be no refresh. seems like everything will pretty much stay the same. not sure where that thread went though...

EDIT:

Found some info for ya :)

Thanks for the info guys looks like ill be purchasing a 2011 when the 2012s come out while hoping for some kind of price drop haha do you think there will even be a revision of the 370z? Or do we just have to wait until the next generation comes out? I'm kind of disappointed that there isn't any sort of change to the current Z but I guess there's no point in changing something that's already great!

MacCool 07-11-2011 07:00 AM

The Z is a low-volume production car, likely with fairly thin margins for Nissan. That means not a lot of money to fund an extensive R&D for it. Throw in a damaged production schedule and parts/paint shortages across the Nissan lineup and the resultant need to focus on cars that have higher sales volume and more profit and you have a low refresh rate.

I'm sure Nissan, somewhere, has an upgrade schedule for the Z. No doubt the tsunami disrupted that. As it stands, sales of the 370 are so crappy that one has to wonder whether Nissan is just going to keep the car as-is until they cost-account the assembly line and molds, then flush it.

Got my '10 with only ~100 miles on it. Got lucky though it was not used as a test drive car but a show room car. The dealer told me there was a set mileage they were not allowed to sell a car as "new" after that. I think he said that was 500 miles or something but don't quote me on it and it was a "Dealer" so it might be BS.

Here is what I gleaned from my search for a "new 2011." As a result of the earth quake there is no production of 2011. In November the plant is scheduled to go back into production (per a sales guy at Nissan). You have a limited selection of 2011 models and can not order a 2011. If you like what is on the lot, then a 2011 may be for you. Most of the cars in inventory are dark and base models. If you are lookin for Sport Package and/or Nav you may want to wait until 2012. I found a pre-owed 2009 with everything I wanted (i.e., color, Nav, Sports package....) Good Luck!
