Happens all the time with low production cars like this actually. It has to do with things component supplies, production schedules, and what makes it easier for Nissan. I'd say either more people were ordering them with them, so Nissan just said, let's just put them on everything so we don't have to think about it, or, Nissan inadvertently ordered too many splash guards and they just need to get rid of inventory.

Another example would be that this month they only accept Touring model orders, because for a solid month they only have leather seats available, or it makes it easier for them to produce. There are lots of reasons to which only Nissan knows the true answers.

Well, thankfully touring was one of my requirements! I'm gonna be pissed if 2012 MY comes out with some major changes...

Me too. I mean, it's totally possible. Thinking worst case, say, what if all the Rays wheels got trashed in the tsunami? If they want to make cars they have to use something, right? So who's to say they don't jump to another brand or style wheel to keep production going? I realize this may be an extreme example, and its certainly pessimistic, but it's possible, especially with other smaller parts.

My example about Touring could just as easily go the other way, where only NON-Touring cars could be ordered. Like what if they are out of Bose radios or out of leather seats? Just saying it's possible, and it certainly happens in the car industry.

On another note, I think someone up there is messing with me. A dealer by me has the exact car I want on the lot, BUT, it HAS the Touring package, which I don't want.

Just to explain for those people who are saying why.... I'm not going to knock anyone who wants or loves or must have the touring package, but it's not for me. It's not that I don't like leather, but heated seats are a total waste for me (have had them in my Murano since 2004 and never use them), Bose stereo's are basically junk in the audiophile world, and I can buy the cargo cover thing separate for like $250 - $300 if I want it. So, $4500 - $300 for the cover, - $1000 for an aftermarket radio/DVD/speakers w/backup camera (that Bose thing isn't worth more than a $500 charge), and you get Nissan charging $3200-$3700 for 2 leather seats. A total rip off if you ask me. It's all in what you deem necessary, and if you think it's a fair price. I might consider getting the Touring package if it were only $1500, or maybe on the outside $2000. But $4500 is crazy money to me.

As opposed to going aftermarket for all your audio/visual stuff, nothing is going to look more flush and clean as the OEM touring package...thats enough justification for me to order it

I agree, this is true.

Well we'll have to agree to disagree on how better to use $4500.

I see you are also getting the NAV with your order. Again, it does look good in the car for sure, and it supposedly works well.

But for me, that's it. For me it's a ridiculously over priced toy I can certainly do without. Again, we'll have to agree to disagree how to better spend $2000.

That's why we are ordering our cars, we want 'em how we want 'em.

And hey, we are obviously at polar opposites, because you are getting black, and I am getting white. Can't get more opposite than that.

According to the press release at nissannews.com, there will be no major changes on the 2012s. I'm hoping for some more options on the NISMO car though.

I'm already making a list of stuff I have to do once I order my 2012 NISMO car:
-Salvage sub, sub mount and amp from current Z (leaving headunit / bluetooth + adapters)

-Shop for new head unit - looking at the Alpine INA-W910. Anyone heard anything good/bad about it? Kinda bummed it doesn't have a hard drive or traffic congestion warnings like the touring kit does but w/e.

-Find "solid red" paint code, have calipers powder coated

-Buy new crossover, adapters, wiring

-Buy new door speakers & tweeters.

-Price out oil coolers

-Price out intakes.

Depends on the dealer really. The dealer i went through was nice enough to tell me not to give them a deposit since they didn't know if they were going to be able to order my Z back when i first ordered it. they of course were able to order it, but when i asked them again if they needed a deposit they still told me that i didnt need to put a deposit down.

P.S.

This was through Fontana Nissan, one of the sponsoring forum dealers

Every dealer I have spoken to wants a deposit. Nothing less than $1000, and as high as $2000.

Again though, I am not giving them a dime until I know they have an actual allocation.

Absolutely! I can see how committing one of their allocated slots for free would be unwise, but for them to take money just to put you on a list where it costs them nothing and has ZERO potential to cost them anything is just slimey.

Dealership I'm working with has asked for a $1000 fully refundable deposit once they are able to order the 2012s.

Also make sure you get your deposit refund conditions in writing along with a fully receipt.
