Why the Canadian economy is doing better than the US
I finally figured it out! Us Canadians are a bunch of suckers!
I've been searching months for a Z, found a couple 40th anniversary editions worth pursuing. Case 1 Dealer is advertising on Craigslist a 40th anniversary 370Z with 10,000Km (6000miles), at full price $48,888.00. I called the sales guy, he says it brand new,.... but it's got 10,000Km! He says "no, it's brand new, never been registered, dealership owner has been driving it". But it's got 10,000Km on it! It's like driving across the country and back! "no, no, no, it's new". Whatever this guys smokin', I want some! Case 2 Private seller of a 40th, wants to sell the car at the same price he paid for. "Dude, once you drive it off the lot, you lose, .... at least 15%". His reply "But next year it'll be worth more, 'cause it's a limited edition and will be a collectible". He lowered his price a couple thousand, but still....wow! I think we must be suckers up here as someone will surely buy these cars for those prices and keep our economy going. Are we all that naive? Has anyone else come across the disillusioned? Last year I went shopping for a Z, I went to this dealer to check out a Z but it had 190 miles on it. I asked the salesman why there were so many miles already. He said to me, "Nissan engineers test drive every new Z. What the engineers do is drive the Z around Nissan parking lot and put in over 150 miles to make sure that every moving parts gel together before delivering it to the dealer."
Then I pointed my finger at another Z next to him and said, "Then why does that Z have only 9 miles on it?" Then he said oh because Nissan engineers knew that car would pass quality inspection so they didn't need to drive around and test too much. I walked away. -Nuff said. |

I live on the east coast of the GWN. There is only one dealer who brings in Z's and that's less than what you count on one hand with a few fingers missing! No competition so the dealer has the attitude that if you want the car you pay his price or else travel out of province and make a deal there. Kinda hard to do if you have to trade a vehicle. However, I lucked out on the roadster as there was a Canada wide clearance sale on them and I got $10000 off MSRP. Best deal I ever got on a new car. In the big picture, us Canucks get raped on just about everything we buy. Our culture is too tolerant and polite to raise hell. It's easier just to pay the price. Wow! I envy our friends to the south when it comes to purchasing power.

For those who weren't around in the spring of 2009.... 370's were selling for over retail price. Because of the shortage and demand.
As far as the difference in price from the USA.... people obviously don't know much about the differences between the 2 countries. Not trying to sound "snotty", but really...(?). Come on folks, let's not try to compare apples with oranges.

What does thread have to do with the economy? Seems like the dealers are just sketchy and put a premium on the car because of availability. They did the same thing in the US when the GT-R came out... as well as the challenger and camaro to name a few.

In my case the dealer did also knock $5000 off the price and I got a fully loaded 2009 Sports / Touring for $40,900 in Oct 2009. I considered it a good deal. From what I've seen any 'New' car from a dealership that has mileage on it the dealer should be willing to take 'AT LEAST' 1$ off per km.. |

Honestly I wouldn't take it for more than 44k out the door with that kind of mileage but that's just a personal thing. You also have to think the dealer probably didn't respect the break in period of the new engine and those km's were probably hard and fast. You may want to use that as a bargaining point. I really think if you show the the salesman you are willing to walk or mention another dealership that carries 370's you'll see a rapid price reduction. |
