Dealer add ons.. Wtf?
I will be buying a 370z in the next 5-6 months. I am almost done demodding my G which will be going on craigslist.. I have been checking out 370z's all over craigslist and dealers.. I want to buy new.
The last dealership I went to had their cheapest Z priced at 38K which I thought was damn pricey when all other dealers have brand new Z's at 29K-31K For reference, I just want a base with sport package so I know the touring can get up there price wise. Anyways.. I continiue down the line of Z's and the prices go higher and higher.. 42K--44K--46K!!! wtf? 46K for a roadster? LOL. There was a new nismo model cheaper than a touring with options does that sound about right? So I start looking deep into the sticker price and I see a whole bunch of garbage.. Tint-- $500 Edge guards--$320 Nitrogen air-- $150 etc etc.. There was a whole lot more than that. I think that is not fair for them to charge for that BS. Can you ask them to peel off their tint? Let out their precious nitrogen and go to QT for free air? Take off the granny edge guards? There was about $2300 in extras tacked onto the price tag. It could be me but personally if I'm buying a brand new car I want it as fresh and as stock as possible. This will be my first time buying new so maybe this is all normal.. Not too sure. What did you pay for your NEW Base/sport package? Thanks! |
Most people around here are paying $32000 or so for a base+sport. I'm actually looking at getting another myself and I'm not paying over $32000. Check out the invoice pricing threads here. A base model is like $28099 + sport package is $2600.

^^^that's about what we paid for our base + sport....
|
Yeah, thanks. That sounds about right as to what I want to spend on a Nissan 370z. If I'm going in the 40K+ thats used Z06 territory which I am considering.
My friend works at a dealer so he's giving me all the good info as to what I need to do. The dealership that I bought my G from totally owned me, stupid me I was young and just wanted a car.. This time I'll be making the dealers pull their hairs out ;) PS: What are nismo's usually going for in your area? |
Nismo invoice is just above $36000 I think. But then again you have to add in floor mats and such.
Also check out some of the car sales searchs. Theres 370Z's on there for $30,180 with sport package, manual, floor mats, trunk mat. There are deals to be had out there. Also, the Marazzi dealership in Naples, FL still has a 2009 touring + sport sitting in their showroom. Thats rather ridiculous if you ask me. Its nearly 2 years old because the 2011's are rumored for a Oct 21st launch..... |
Yeah that is pretty crazy. I've seen a couple brand new 09's around here too. Peoria nissan here had a 2010 base/sportpackage for 28xxx which I found pretty cool. Makes me want to buy brand new even more.
Thanks for the good info. |
$2300 in adds is excessive.

We have adds on our CR-Z's too. it's $2000 for "Fair Market Value" -_-
What's sad is that people pay for it. |
That garbage is additional dealer markup money.
I've seen a quick 15 minute wash and wax = paint protection package = $1000 Or the 3M spray = Lifetime internal protection = $500 Rest assured anything listed on the paper invoice after the MSRP is rip off territory designed to maximize dealer profit at the expense of your wallet. "Optional" accessories like iphone cables, floor mats, and splash guards are merely overpriced and you may not be able to get dealers to budge too much. But a $5 can of 3M spray (and they will use a single can for several cars) being advertised as $500 dollars would piss most people off if they knew what was actually involved. These are designed to pad dealer margins and be "negotiated" away to make customers think they are getting a good deal. My advice to you when shopping for a car is to bring paperwork with line item pricing of every conceivable item. Then you can watch their faces as you mark down 25 cents as the invoice price for their precious $150 dollar nitrogen tire fill. For a 2010 manual base sport, depending on where you are, you should not pay anymore than 3000-4000 under MSRP. Most dealers are lucky if they are clearing more than a single 370Z a month. Go to truecar.com and spec out the 370Z. You can see what prices they have been going for nationally and depending on your location a local dealer price. |
i paid 37.5k before tax/title etc for a fully loaded (touring/sport/nav 6mt) special factory order 2010 Z back in march.
|
Just give them the number you want and don't consider the "add ons" when coming up with your price. If they balk at that, give them $100 for the tint and call it a day.
|
I paid $29,600 + TTL for my base + sport.
|
dealer add ons..
found a good deal online on a dealers website. Once I got financed he tells me $800 for this and $1500 for dealer add ons (blah blah blah). I told him I wanted the price quoted on his internet website and that I'll buy elsewhere. You can purchase anywhere.

500 for tint? That sounds excessive to me.
