Touring worth it?
Hey gents, looking for some feedback!
I am in the market for a 370z base trim w/sports package. I went on the hunt for the last week, and was unable to find one anywhere in my city that was a stick. However I did find a ton of touring w/sports package manuals. Anyway I decided to bargain on one, just to see what kind of deals I could expect. I ended up getting the dealer down to $34,500 (MSRP was $39,000). Now I know that is a crazy good deal already, but I am still not convinced the Touring additions are worth it. That price is still about $4,000 over what I would expect to pay for the base w/sports model I was looking for. So my question is do you feel the Touring additions are worth $4,000? Do you think I should jump on this deal or continue my search? Or is this purely a personal preference? Thanks! |

Thanks Frost! That thread pretty much sums up my internal discussions. I'll try get them down to $34,000 because the car has around 80 miles on it already and if they bite I'll probably go for it.

Did you bid on a Touring w/Sports package and u got it all the way down to $34,500 (isn't that way below invoice)? The reason i ask is because i have my heart set in getting a blk ext/blk int. Touring w/sports package Nav 6sp manual, and it's freaking impossible to find. Plus the MSRP is over $40K. The places that you've been bargaining at, is it in nor-cal or so-cal? Any advice or suggestion? I searched all the dealership's inventory around me and I can't even find any Touringw/sports,nav, 6 speed. I most likely will have to special order.

Well the invoice for the touring+sport was $35,216, but I managed to talk them down because of the miles on it to $34,500. That was a crazy good deal, and there is no way a sane dealer would ever go lower then that on a Z.
I am in Texas, and funnily enough the same dealership had the exact car you want (blk/blk, touring+sport+nav+6sp) but they ended up selling it really fast. It may be hard to find the exact car you want, you should go chat to some dealers. They'll know the Z models they are expecting to receive soon, so you might be able to avoid special ordering one which will take months to get. Also one of the dealers I talked to was willing to source my car from another city and cover the cost of the flat bed transfer for me too. Just gotta find a nice dealer! I ended up buying just a red base+sports model, for $31,500 (inv $31,858). |

i heard that invoice pricing doesn't really mean a thing. it's just something the dealer can show to make you think you got a good deal.
technically, i think that would be correct because if invoice price was the price they got the car for from the manufacture, why would they sell below invoice price? |

Mossy Nissan in Houston... speak to Kirk for instant invoice pricing.
And the dealers do still make some money selling it at invoice, through factory holdback and other factory to dealer incentives. |

Kirk started out at 500 over invoice, but I have walked away currently, though he has been the best overall in Houston I have dealt with. I test drove that blue fully loaded Z (6 speed) for a bit and was so close to buying it.

That's the one I went in to see and it had been sold 3 hours earlier Are you sure Kirk wasn't just including the destination fee already? Either way he should show you the original billing doc if you ask.

Sounds good, I was going to talk to him again this week probably, want to order at the end of the month. I will say I did not get to really test drive that fully loaded though, drove around the block because it was 5:15 and I-10 rush hour stopped any real driving.

honestly i really like touring. but i mean if you are going to really mod your car, probably want to go with base + sports package.
for me, i wanted touring because i wanted leather seats and the anti-glare rear view mirror thing. i hated when driving at night and people blinding my eyes, so it was a must for me. bluetooth was a must as well because i don't want to get fined. most of my co-workers already got fined for talking on the cellphone while driving. but really, it's a personal preference. and btw - you can't go wrong either way. |

base for me
I have been wrestling with this one. I really like the leather and homelink, but besides that, I am not needing anything else from touring. I miss having a kicking' sound system in my car, my 2006 350 is stock. With the base, you get a nice "double DIN" cutout and cheap unit above the HVAC controls, looks really easy to aftermarket with a nice Nav/DVD/CD screen. For less than what I would pay for touring, I will be upgrading the sound system. Later if lack of leather is killing me, I can always aftermarket. It is warm here most of the year, so heated seats is rarely used, and so hot in summer that the leather really sticks to you and sweats you until the car cools down. Based on all these variables, I decided on the base model. Don't get me wrong, leather looks great though. I hope someone comes out with a nice subwoofer enclosure that will fit between the area right behind the seats and the two shock towers. I could see a small unit there with two 8"s, one on either side firing up. I guess in time we'll see all kinds of aftermarket stuff available.

Yeah guess I'll post an update in regards to my original question. I decided not to get the touring and bought a base model earlier this week. So far no regret.
If anything, I am actually happier I got the base because of what antennahead mentioned... the OEM head unit in the base model is just a basic double din so you can replace it super easy which I plan to do shortly. I'm going to be throwing an in-dash nav/vid/audio HU in there which should fix everything I miss from the touring. |
