how to get the best price?
so basically, i'm in the market for a 370z.
pretty much they are going for under invoice now right? i checked on truecar.com and it says there are dealers near me offering for about $1400 under invoice... and it also says it's below dealer cost? has anyone actually went through truecar.com for purchasing? what about usaa, amex, costco, etc...? thanks! |

Well, you should start by getting the invoice on the car you are most interested in. But always remember that dealers get discounts from the manufacturers so what they are quoting you for as invoice is really a couple thousand more than they paid. I bought my 370z for $1600 under invoice and I bet that they are not losing money on the deal otherwise they would not have done it.

Truecar.com is an excellent place to start. Far better than Edmunds or KBB. I used the truecar price when negotiating for my Nismo. Was actually able to get one dealer to go a couple of hundred dollars below the truecar good price range. I was eligible for VPP pricing, but in the end used the truecar price to negotiate my best deal (which was almost $1K below VPP).
As the gentlemen from FuszNissan said, do your research, get quotes from multiple dealers, and then start negotiating from there. Good luck! |

yea i've done some extensive research and have my little excel spreadsheet already. nismojim, do you actually use the truecar.com's "show me lowest price" to buy your car? can anyone tell me what additional fees are included in a purchase? like random bs fees and which ones are mandatory from the manufacturer and which ones can be negotiated? |

I believe the only fee should be the $720 destination fee.
If they try to add on other fees, tell them the price you negotiated is what your paying, if they require fees, they need to adjust the price with those fees in mind to match what you agreed upon. See what happens, they may do it, you may make a small compromise, or you may need to be prepared to walk away. The salesmen will assume a random pointless $500 fee won't break the deal on a $30k car, so they try to sneak them in since its pure profit. However, let them know that you do care about it, and you may get them reduced/removed. Just be prepared and able to walk away for a few days, or to try another dealer if your going to drive a hard bargain for the absolute best price you can get. Keep in mind, person A on the boards may can get a better price than you due to one of a million variables. Find the price your willing to pay (as long as it is fair) and aim for it. |
