Just got back from ordering my Z...

and man am I excited!

I arrived at the dealership at around 7 p.m. tonight to see what I could work out with pricing on a Black/black 7AT Base with Floor Mats, a Trunk Mat, Splash Guards, and Illuminated Kick plates. They told me initially that I the price of the car was 34,500 take it or leave it. At about 9:30 (they close at 9:00) we had arrived at a deal.

I am getting what I chose delivered to me on Tuesday for 31,000 + TTL (Freight Charge of 695.00 included in the 31,000 price.) I also get a Lifetime Warranty with the vehicle.

I actually enjoyed the haggling process believe it or not and the dealer also stated at one point that he hated online forums because they ruin the car industry. I guess they don't like it when someone actually does a little research before coming into the dealership. :icon14:

Also, I would highly recommend reading the edmunds articles about negotiating and car buying, as they helped me tremendously tonight. They tried just about every trick in the book along with tacking on a shipping fee of $1600 which made me literally laugh out loud. :rofl2:

So how did I do as a first time car buyer?

Decent I suppose, but I think you could have gone lower - what was the MSRP, 3200 or so?

Well first they were asking 34,500 for it. The MSRP as equipped would be around 32,555. Invoice was 30,421.

^^^So there was actually a markup on the vehicle? Just seeing that would have made me walk out.

Yeah, I was a little upset when I saw that, but I have been to EVERY Nissan Dealer within 50 miles of me and each one has been marked up to the 34 range. You would think with car sales the way they are now, they would be a little more realistic.

They can ask for whatever they want. Doesnt mean they'll get it.

Honestly, go into best buy completely uneducated on a certain product, and ask a salesmen who makes commission what they think you should get, and they may recommend something because it has XXX features. It might cost more than a cheaper one with the same features/quality or more than Target right down the road, but they hope that you dont know that, and they'll make whatever extra cash they can on the deal none the less.

I guess what Im trying to say is, you got 1K less than MSRP which is...eh, alright considering you could have been COMPLETELY boned and paid more than MSRP if you didnt haggle at all. But, a better deal could have been had by simply getting up and leaving.

Me, I'll pay invoice when I get mine, and not much more at all.

I ordered my base 6-spd w/sport package for invoice of $31,500 so I think if you did a little more research you would've walked away with a better deal.

Congratulations. You did a good deal for the area you're in, by the sounds of it. ...and you'll love the car when you get it.

Great job!

Good job!! Look $500 over invoice is fine. Especially if that include the dreaded no good processing fee!

mrrrkva 04-07-2009 10:52 PM

Enjoy your new car an DONT LOOK BACK!!! Sure if you drove 1000 milesto another dealer you could of done better, or if you faxed 42 other dealers, but hell, you got a local dealer to do your service.
