370Z isnt making too much sense... lease help!
Hey guys... so my idea was to get a small tiny fun daily driver where i can lease for somewhere from 24-39 months for somewhere around $400-$500 (assuming drive off only, 12k-15k miles a year). i also want to mod a car that's not too expensive to mod. i want VOLK wheels so i need a JDM car
Being practical (having some space, maybe AWD for snowboarding) is definitely a plus, so i test drove different cars. Here's what i considered: 1. Mini cooper S - front wheel drive killed it when i test drove it 2. S2000 too slow, and salesman didnt take me to a road where i can test it's "fun" factor, handling, etc. just a straight line back and forth 3. BMW 135i, awesome car, ridiculously fun but BMW has crazy rates (lease in 700's) 4. Z4M - i love this car, just too scarce now. but still open possibilities 5. STi, i loved the handling, but for one im not used to AWD, for another it didnt feel all that fast + huge turbo lag 6. 350z yah but there's the new shiny one! and lease sucks *** on 08's due to very low residual (coz it's last year's model) 7. 370Z i absolutely love it and this tops my list. it's fun, nimble, quick, looks awesome, nice navi on it, awesome throws on the shifter, the synchro-rev i can use. i have a problem with VDC on or off but that's no biggie. My problem is lease numbers i got are in 600's which is completely ridiculous! What's funny is i got offers on Cayman S in 700's. well the cayman S was in 70k range, the Z is in mid 30's. so i cannot justify such a lease payment. especially not along my m3 lease payments. 8. yet to be test driven: Evo X Do you guys have any tips, do you guys have any information (like residual numbers, mf) or anything that can help me get a decent lease on the car? do you know of a dealer who's willing to work with me? just any thoughts??

also another question. i have read info on nissan's site and on here, but i have to say the dealers confused the hell out of me.
what's the difference between base + sports package and touring + sports package? all i really care about is sports package (VLSD, big brakes, synchro) and maybe nav. i dont care about more fluff really... what should i be looking for? lol

Hello,
Basically the 370Z comes in two trims, Base and Touring. And then there's three packages available, Sport Package (both trims can have this), Navigation Package (only touring trim) and Aerodynamics (i think both trims can have this). The Touring trim offers you: Bose Xenon HomeLynk Leather (heated) seats Power seats 6 cd changer (i believe) (I believe there are some more things on the touring but i'm going off of my memory here) Hope this helps and good luck. BTW I was able to get a lease of $550 giving 2,500 down with 15K miles on a Touring (no sport pkg and no navi). I didn't take it, decided to pursue to purchase one with the navi, negotiating now |

Xenon lights are on all models.
Touring has: Bose Homelynk Leather (with heat) Power seats Bluetooth Auto-dimming rearview mirror Rear cargo cover XM ready Radio Data system That should be it I think, minus nav which is another upgrade option. |

All I can say is, look at Road and Track's most recent Lightning Lap issue. The new STi and EVO were beaten by the Cobalt SS/TC lol. Sure, it may be a Cobalt, but its still a performance bargain.
If anything I'd say find a used Evo 9 and get that - screw the 10. Assuming you want something AWD. |

Nice choices of cars. Just one thing on the 08+ STI, did you check the drive setting? Make sure it was set on sport mode (there is console near the shifter) that will dramatically change the throttle response.
Don't forget to test drive the Evo X - esp the MR which I think will be a great DD. I know this is not in your small fun car category, but you might want to look into Jeep SRT8 They are giving these away at the moment. 0-60 in 4.5 sec but mph is out of control. Good luck! |

He may as well get a Pontiac G8 GT, get considerably better gas mileage and just as much performance (as soon as that pesky 0-60 time is over, ya know). And they're being given away just as much. |

Nissan's lease rates suck right now for the Z. Why do you want out of your M3?

I would think an M3 would be a great daily driver. I'm not sure what you'll gain by getting out of it and into one of those you listed up there.

I commute a lot, i do not want to rack more miles on the M3. i want another car next to the M3 to travel for work. something small, quick, fun. that's all.

The Z meets the small and fun factor well.
As you probably now, from a financial perspective you would be better just putting the miles on the M3 versus running a second car. From a fun factor though, it is nice to have a choice of what to drive. I have two completely different types of vehicle and enjoy the contrast. My second car is a Jeep, which here in Phx can have the top off 80% of the year, that works great for running to Home Depot, just taking in the sun or driving more casually. Plus we have some great off road trails not far from town. If I had an M3, and did not need more room in a second vehicle, my vote would be for the Z4. At least then you are getting a vert for a different feel and use. Not trying to compare the 370Z's performance to an M, but they would feel too much alike for me to want both vehicles at the same time.

^^ thanks for the input! yes i am considering many cars but at this point whichever gets me the best deal i'll jump on it. altho i really like the Z. from practicality perspective i should be going after a WRX impreza, not even an STi. but then im a car whore, i like it fun and fast

Hey I just went through this last week before deciding on buying the 370. The problem with leasing the car isn't so much its low residual value, (53-57% after 39 mos.) but that they really dont want these cars back. They know kids buy these cars to fly around. This is why it makes more sense to buy the 370. It costs around 7-800/month on a 3 year lease for a fully loaded z with sport. However, if you were to buy this car you would still have the same monthly payment except it would be for 5-6 years. This is because you are paying more then the residual value when leasing for these cars. Most dealers are throwing figures at you that essentially make you pay off about 70% of the car in 3 years this way when they get it back they can re-sell it for greater profit even if it has problems from being driven like it was stolen. I hope this helps. AND BTW, the 370 is so...how do i say....DOPE BOY FRESH! lolol
