Negotiating on a 6MT. Good deal?

Hey guys as the title says I'm currently in the process of negotiating on a 2010 6MT 370Z with only the Sports Package. The sticker price on the car is 34,580, and I've got it down to invoice which is $32,163 the dealership showed me the print out. That isn't the problem.

The problem is my trade-in. I currently drive a 2008 Infiniti G37S with Sports and Premium Packages 5AT. It has 37,915 miles and they only want to give me $26k for it which I don't want to go for. I want at least $28k for my car trade-in which I think is reasonable. What do you guys think?

Sell private party!

I was thinking that but if I get $28k it'll be like if I'm getting over $29,500 on the street bc of tax savings. I'm willing to let it go for $28k and save myself the hassle and waiting on a private buyer. I've been through that before.

Dealer's aren't trying that hard to get top price for a car in most trades. A buy bid goes out to the area and it's generally middle of the road. I'm guessing since your screen name is Slammed37S that your car may not be stock. Try putting it back to stock and the offer may go up a bit.

It isn't stock. I currently have lowering springs on it and 20" wheels, but I made it clear that i will convert the car back to stock. And they priced it accordingly.

I took a similar hit when I traded in my 350. I got 2k less than KBB and what I wanted for it. In my case, I didn't want to go through the hassles of doing a private sale, so I let it go. Plus, it took me a while to find the 370 I wanted so I wasn't gonna just let it go.

3 weeks later I drove by the same dealer and saw them selling my 350 for 5k more than what they got if for =).

I was looking at G37S 6MT coupes before I got "approval" to get a two-seater (which I jumped on in a heartbeat), and that price is a tad low. I was seeing $29-$30K for 30k G37S 6MT's, so I figure $27-$28K should be a good price.

However, everyone has always told me that the dealer will try to make up for a good deal elsewhere in the buying process, and that's always the trade-in. I know you don't want to hassle with the private party sale (my '04 G35 6MT priv sale was relatively painless, but still took A LOT of time), so maybe see if you can meet at $27K; aim for $27.5 for your goal?

I hear you the dealerships r crooks. I just want to finance as a little as possible and not have my payments go up too much. Does anybody here want to purchase my G? lol

:yum: Damn that's a nice *** G...

Get them to knock another 1000 off the price of the Z and meet in the middle.

m4a1mustang 07-27-2010 05:52 PM

Have you gotten it appraised at Carmax?

zZSoCalZz 07-27-2010 05:56 PM

If you still have stock rims put them back on and sell you rims for about 2gs?

TongMan 07-27-2010 06:42 PM

Just keep the G37S...

You should offer lower than what they show you for invoice. Dealers have discounts from the manufacturer so the invoice they are showing you is not what they paid for the car, but rather what the manufacterer would sell the car at face value for (not including discounts+incentives to the dealer).

I just bought a 2010 370Z Touring last weekwhich listed at $38,000 and the invoice was $34,555 but I ended up walking out after offering $33,000 without them coming down from invoice. They called back later that day and said they will do it for $33,000. Just my advice, you might make up another 1-2,000 off the price of the car which will offset your trade in if they don't budge on trade in.

I took delivery of the Z today and traded in the G37. The cars amazing! I don't regret it one bit. I reverted the G back to stock today and traded it in smoothly. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. I finally got the Z for $1,100 below invoice. I think I did good lol
