Final Invoice Due On Delivery

Hi all, first off, thanks to those of you who replied and read my previous thread: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-p...u-were-me.html

I have come to a final price that I feel very comfortable with. So naturally, I'm asking the dealer via email to give me the breakdown of the price with taxes and fees itemized to get an absolute final picture to know what i need to finance with penfed (I was approved immediately over the phone so HUGE thanks to AK for the tip!!) and save in cash before i can walk in:

The list price: 41350
Discount savings: -3951
After savings: 37399
taxes/fees: 4232.52
due on delivery: 41631.52

After receiving this, I asked for a further breakdown of the taxes/fees line item:

tax: 3651.77
doc fee: 55
lic reg: 517
tire fee: 8.75
VSP: 389

I hope this helps everyone. But I have a question. What the hell is VSP? I asked the dealer and they said it's Vehicle Security Protection and it's etched on all the windows of every vehicle. For 389???? Can someone here elaborate further?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know what it is specifically but it sounds like one of those things some dealers try to use to increase profit similar to when they try to sell you vehicle undercoating or paint protection. I'd guess about $388 of the $389 is pure profit to the dealer.

I would tell them you don't want the VSP and see if they will cut it out of the deal. If not, you need to look at the cost including the $389 and judge if it's still a good deal overall.

Hope it all works out!

and having etched windows does... what exactly? helps identify the burnt wreck that is your car after someone has stolen it and destroyed it. that 389 probably isnt glass etching anyway, because it would be taxed, and wouldn't be grouped into the taxes and fees because they are selling you the etching.

the 389 would better be suited to putting towards a good alarm like a viper to PREVENT your car from being stolen, rather than hoping to find it if it does.

We could tell you what VSP is, but it might jeopardize national security.

Ugh...When I bought my 350 the dealer tried to soak me on VSP, and claimed that all of their cars had it and the cost couldn't be waived. I walked out. Before I could get in my car they called me back inside and took it off.

Please....do not under any circumstances be a sucker here.

thanks for the heads up!

I typically negotiate an out the door price. That way the dealer can divide up their fees however they like and I don't worry about hidden fees. Counter their offer with an OTD price that is exactly 389 less than what they quoted ;)

thanks Zaggeron. I tend to be a little bit cutthroat sometimes so I think I'm taking my business to someone honest. I like the idea of what you're saying and it's good to know consumers can use that strategy to their advantage. I'll def consider.
