NISMO Z Buying suggestion if you were me?
Hi everyone. I am new to the forums but i've been lurking around for a couple weeks. I am in the market for a black, loaded '10 Nismo 370Z. I've been getting quotes for a little over a week now and I've gotten it down to what i think to be a competitive price point. but you tell me.
37,790 plus lifetime powertrain. No strings and they're willing to wait for me. 37,500 with a dealer pressuring me to buy before the end of the month. I am taking AK's advice and signed up for a penfed membership last week so i am waiting for the stuff in the mail. I am planning to put down 8k on the purchase in mid-july to mid-august. I've told the dealer that is pressuring me about my penfed membership and he is talking about using CUDL with me because he would like to run through my credit to finance it through penfed but through his cudl system to expedite. I told him i only have 3k now. he offered that i give him a check for the remaining down to cash later. he may also come back with a lifetime powertrain warranty since i brought that up as a stipulation. I would like to hear your thoughts on this powertrain warranty. what is exactly and is it worth a damn? also, do you think i can do better? my target all along was 37.5. although this is below invoice, does this take into account holdback percentage properly? season? any advice is welcome. thanks again and you guys rock hard. strangely, i am proud to even be writing in this forum. -blad Last edited by Pensun; 07-10-2010 at 05:42 AM. |

Welcome man first off! I'd interpret the lifetime powertrain warrenty as you're covered on the engine and trans. But I've never heard of anyone else getting one on a Z so it may only be covered by that dealer and make sure you get it in writing as well. There may be some other things in the fine print about not letting you mod it. However both prices seem pretty fair for a brand new Nismo.

I offer one, but not on sports cars. Most dealers do it in house.(Dealer only) We use a National Company so that you may use it anywhere in the U.S.. They car comes with a 5yr. 60K powertrain( please correct me if I am wrong) so if you plan on keeping it longer than I would look at the Lifetime powertrain as a perk to purchase from said dealer. But if you plan on keeping the Z for 3-5 years, I don't see it holding any value. Also, in the fine print not everything is covered in the powertrain(like timing chains) So if you engine seizes due to a timing chain going out, then you will be out the entire engine I believe. I will be more than happy to answer any questions I can about it.

That powertrain warranty will go away once you get plenum spacer, headers, HFC, CBE, SC, Turbo, catback exhaust, oil cooler, etc.
So unless you plan on running stock forever a lifetime powertrain warranty is a waste of money, like any other offer like extended warranty, paint protection, etc. offered by the dealers. There is where they make the money!

thanks for your help everyone. my final sale was for 37k and some change. the OTD price was 40,800. This was for a base nismo Z with nismo mats... no pads or illuminated kickplate after all. I'll do it myself for fun anyway and could do way better on the brakes. and that was with the powertrain extended warranty but it wasn't a negotiation factor that could be removed as far as I knew. I think I pushed them as low as they could go anyway. I couldn't have done it without this forum. So, thank-you. Seriously. and a HUGE thank-you to AK for his tip on the spacers and the financing guide.
