Anyone ever deal with Carmax's Extended Service Plan?
I'm having a 370z transferred to my local Carmax and the car appears to be outstanding so far. Car is an 09 with 6031 miles on it. I'm 95% sure I am going to go through with the deal once the car arrives.
I am wondering if the Carmax warranty is worth it? They offer the top package at about $1649 and it covers the car for 6 years/100k miles from the time of purchase. Do any of you think this is a good buy? With the car being an 09, the bumper to bumper only has 2 years left and the 5 yr powertrain is cut to 4. The car max warranty would cover the vehicle until 2016/106K miles. I'd like to know if you folks think this is worth the cost. I'd also like to know if any of you have ever dealt with Carmax in the past regarding this warranty policy. I don't know how much hassle they gave to begin repairs (online reviews are mixed). Here is a link to their warranty policy and what it covers: CarMax Extended Service Plan Warranty As of right now, I'm kind of 50/50 on the plan. I wouldn't mind the peace-of-mind, but then again who thinks the vehicle will even need major repairs by 106K? Plus, I do all the work on my vehicles, so labor would not be a factor, only parts cost. The only thing that worries me is how the car was treated its first 6K miles, even though Carmax inspects every vehicle...I can trust them right BTW - Thanks for any help/input, and I look forward to finally being a new 370z owner on the board |

My buddy bought a car at Carmax and their service is not really that great. I'm not saying they are bad, just not real super knowledgeable. I can't really hold that against them. They are a used car lot with many different brands to worry about. I'd look into a Nissan extended warranty if you're wanting one. I don't know for sure if you can do that, but it'd be worth asking.
What color/model are you getting? And welcome. |

I wouldn't do it, just like the poster above me I doubt they would be able to fix anything major with your car without sending it out. Then again I would never buy a car from carmax to begin with, the whole no bargaining on garbage prices is just a place to go for people with no spine and want quick and easy with inflated prices but that;s just me.
For example of how much they over look things and are not expert, traded in a Slk320 last year to them because I was moving and had to get rid of it quick. Both rear Yokohama tires were done from burning out. They gave me full price on both of them because they just didn't feel like checking |

I'll have to look into the extended factory warranty, its worth a shot.
And I agree on them not being very knowledgable about all vehicles since they do have a lot to cover. I'm hoping the z will not have majors issues down the road, and most small repairs can be done by myself. Normally I wouldn't choose carmax either nolan, but their price was less than I wanted to pay, they beat 2 of my credit union's loan rates, and I'm pleased overall with the experience so far. Again this situation worked out for me and my circumstances, which is why I chose them. Thanks guys, anyone have experience with their reapir facilities? |

Can you elaborate on this... I am admittedly UN-knowledgeable when it comes to warranties, but aren't all those super-extended (100k miles, lifetime) warranties 3rd party? I have a local dealer that advertises their "lifetime" warranties on their Nissan's, but it's via 3rd party. I'm not trying to pull your card, or anything, but I'd just like some clarification if possible. I have heard some horror stories from 3rd party warranty companies not ponying up when it came time for repairs.

I would just stick with the Nissan warranty that comes with the car, you'll
probably be interested in a new car at a point in the far future and the extended warranty would be moot. Besides the $1649 you would spend on the extended warranty could be used for tires for the next 2 years |

When I was shopping around for a new vehicle, they advertised the same free lifetime warranty, but upon further inspection it was also a 3rd party.
I agree, auston, who knows how long I will keep this car. Also, the initial 1650 can be put towards my cbe or headunit fund :P. I think most major issues, if any, would show themselves within that time, much like the 5th gr syncro issue. By the way, I'm down in san antonio and this car will be MB, so I hope to meet up one of these days...maybe a cars and coffee meet? Last edited by Boost_lee; 05-30-2010 at 05:03 PM. |

Actually I took delivery of the car yesterday and opted out on the warranty. I'm sticking with the factory stuff only.
I've only had the car for a day, but its looking like I'm going to be keeping this one for over 2 years |

More insured accidents and everything becomes clear. Carmax @ Pissed Consumer after reading I decided to buy a car from Carmax. I'm agree warranty isn't cheap but what did you expect from used car.
