Special Ordering and delivery times
I've been skulking around for a few months now, figured now's the right time to say 'hello.' Yesterday, I special ordered a Platinum Graphite 6MT Touring w/Persimmon interior, Sports, Nav, kick plates, splash guards, floor & trunk mats. In Portland, Oregon. Negotiated $37,500. Deposit is down, order is in. Now the wait...
Anyone received a special order yet? Dealer's time frame is 60-90 days. Are these usually under or over? I just HATE having things out of my hands for months. |
Hi, I just got home from my dealer having ordered a Full Monty 2009 Yellow 370z. Got all of the options in black leather. Cost was 39,411 for the whole package which was 500 bucks over invoice. Only problem is that I have to wait till July for delivery!!!. I don't get why it takes so long, in this economy, to take delivery. Anyway I won't be gettin much sleep for the next 4 mounts. Congrates on your new ride.

Step one is to hope the dealer gets an allocation for a chassis. You cannot just "place" and order with the factory. Dealer are allocated a certain number of chassis.
February orders are closed. Begining of March they reopen. If your dealer receives an allocation, he/she can place your order, as long as they are building the vehicle in that configuration/color that build cycle. Once your order is placed and confirmed a order number is generated. This is the first "hard" proof your order has been placed and accepted. From that point the vehicle receives a scheduled build date and then moves through the shipping process. Your dealer can call and track your order once it has hit land, tell you when it is rail loaded, and port shipped. Your dealer will receive a 24-72 hr "heads up" notice from the car carrier company as to when it will be unloaded onto their lot. Tracking an order is not an easy process. Just make sure you get an order number to confirm the order has been placed and accepted. |
Thanks Phil for the process enlightenment.

Phil should have a 10 power rep by now for all of the info he has dropped on this board.
I went to the dealer mid January and left my deposit. It was only $250 which was a shock because I had to leave $1K when I ordered my Infiniti. I was advised the vehicle would be ordered the first of February with a 60-90 day delivery time which is late April early May. |
The wait is killing me, come on may. Wouldn't that suck if the boat sank with my z onit.

So, I talked to a sales manager today to try to alleviate some of the anxiety I'm feeling about not knowing for sure if an order was actually placed. I guess I got some good news. The guy told me a few hours after the order was faxed to Nissan, Nissan called and said they had a vehicle slated for March production that was VERY close... the only difference being that the interior was black instead of persimmon. They said they could try to change the spec now and have the persimmon leather put in, and keep the car in queue for March production.
So, as the sales guy told me, best case scenario is I get a car in the March production line, and worst case is I get my car in the April production line. So... this sounds good to me. But, is the harsh reality that, since I don't have an order number yet, this is all crap, and I still am at the mercy of luck? Thanks so much for the info :) |
