Odometer off the lot

Hi. I just purchased a 370Z but the dealer didn't have the one I want. He gave me two options. The first is that I wait for one to be shipped here from Japan. He said it may take a while. He estimated between now and the middle/end of June. Anyone know how long it usually takes?

The other option is they ship one here from the next town over. My only issue with that is that the car already has 155km (96 mi) on it and the dealer said it wasn't test driven. Any idea if that is a fair assessment? Seems like a lot of miles/kilometers on a brand new car. I'm just worried that if it was test driven then someone would try and see what the car could/couldn't do and those KMs probably someone pushing the car. Should I just wait? How many kilometers/miles should I expect on the car before I take it?

Any advice would be great!

96 miles.... it was test driven. Or driven from a dealership to the one it's at. Just make a big stink out of it and get it real cheap, but make sure there's no rock chips or anything like that on it.

My Z had about 33 miles on it if I remember correctly.

tjlazer 05-17-2010 01:32 PM

Don't worry about it, its under warrantee. Mine had 300 miles on it but it was a 2009 so it got it's fair share of test drives!

SigPapa226 05-17-2010 01:41 PM

I told my dealer if the car had more than 10 miles on it, I would not accept it. I wanted to break-it-in myself. Mine had 6 miles on it & that included going to the local gas station when they filled it up for delivery.

kenchan 05-17-2010 02:05 PM

96miles is nothing. i'd take it.

although my Z had less the 5miles when i first test drove it. it still had all the vinyl wrapping on so my arse slipped around during the quick test drive. :D hahha.

Daishi 05-17-2010 02:30 PM

oh please just take the car lol.

TripleBlkZ 05-17-2010 02:43 PM

Mine will be about the same time end of June/early July....I didn't have a choice but if I did I would have ordered it...for the money we are paying I would want something new never drive by someone..

That's just me and the KM's you mention are not that high but I would want it new unless you get a good deal...

CaptainSlow 05-17-2010 03:47 PM

I decided to hold off. I just wasn't comfortable with a car that has been on the dealer lot. I'm going to be paying $46,000 (CDN) and I'd rather have something I know has never been driven. Four weeks won't kill me (hopefully).

Either way the car wont have 0 miles on it. They drive the cars at the factory and initial break in of the motors have already been done.

Well if you want to save some ca$h, get the car now (by using the milage as leverage to lower the price), else wait the 4 weeks and pay 46K CAD. :P

I understand that. But at least then I know it's someone from the factory and not some Joe Blow trying to see how far he can rev the engine before it starts cutting out.

Because it's not at the dealership they said it'll cost $420 to ship the car and I would have to pay half.

but you wont be guaranteed that it wasn't repaired at the port when it arrives. you never know what you get. repairing transit damage is a norm. you may end up with a crappier car than a clean 96mile test car.

Okay, but then based on your comment that "repairing transit damage is a norm" wouldn't the 96 mile car also have some repaired transport damage? I really don't know what I'm going to get until they ship the car to the dealer as well. I guess the only difference here is I'm waiting four+ weeks.

specZ 05-17-2010 04:51 PM

stop splitting hairs and get the damn car already...Youre in a jetta for christ's sake!

it might. it might not. never know unless you know how to look at paints. :icon17: the only difference is not just 4 weeks. there are MANY things that can potentially go wrong during car delivery so this is why im commenting.

you're not guaranteed a perfect car even if it's brand new. you might even get the dreaded high pitched ECU.

nolan1016 05-17-2010 05:19 PM

This thread is pointless, do what you want there is probably nothing wrong with either of the cars.

CaptainSlow 05-17-2010 05:19 PM

Wonderful! It sounds like I'm not going to get any sleep for a while since I'll be thinking about all the things that might go wrong with my new car!

kenchan 05-18-2010 04:41 PM

yah, and imagine getting into an accident on the way home from the dealership. :D ;)

luv a car but dont luv it to death. hope you get wat you want. :)

CaptainSlow 05-19-2010 02:07 PM

The car is on a ship destined for Canada. I should have it soon I think. I'm not sure the transit time between there and the port and then the port to my dealer. Hopefully mid June!

MeetJoeAsian 05-19-2010 02:19 PM

look, when your car has 40,000 miles or km, watever, on it, is 96 miles gonna matter??? If you valet your car, it will be ragged out worse than a dealer trade...if you're so anal about it, then ask them to transport on a flatbed and you would pay more for it...

and if you're that anal and want it right way, then call other dealerships around the country, then go there and pick the car up and drive it back yourself

mrcardio 05-19-2010 05:18 PM

The 370z doesn't require some kind of special "break in" or anything does it?

I've always been under the impression that most modern cars are broken in from the factory.

When I got my MS3 I didn't do any kind of "break in" and it's still running strong as ever at nearly 50k miles.

Anyways, good luck with your new Z!

I'm seriously considering one my self.

I don't get people who say this. Unless you have an unlimited warranty, there will come a time where YOU have to pay for repairs when things start to fail. 300 miles is probably 7-10 test drives, and I'm sure that at least one of those guys/girls beat the crap out of that thing (probably with the engine cold). I just wouldn't want to take the chance that a few years later there are going to be major issues with the car.

I doubt 60,000 miles down the road they will be able to connect anything to previous test drives 5 years or more earlier. Driving in traffic every day will destroy your engine more than a couple test drives.

shabarivas 05-29-2010 12:09 PM

100 miles is an a$s-load...

I got my 2005 G w/ 9 miles on it and was mad... got my evo X with 5 miles on it and now the Z w/ about 8 or so miles... All after they filled me up too... Wait for another - there are plenty out there

6MT 05-29-2010 01:32 PM

Mine came off the truck with 8kms (approx. 5 miles). I took delivery with 26kms (approx. 17 miles). Can you say joy-ride? I was a bit miffed.

red6spd 05-29-2010 02:58 PM

96 miles isnt that bad, but I would try and get some money off for it. Mine is coming right from the factory to my dealer. And my best friend bro is the one I purchased the car from. He assures me that the only driving there gonna do is to get gas, hopefully this will be the lowest mileage car I ever owned. My Alti had 11 miles on her.

susu 05-29-2010 07:23 PM

CaptainSlow, I'm glad you waited. You paid for a new car and would expect something less than 20km and not a demo. Mine was at 18km when it was sent over from Montreal to Toronto and after dealer's prep. Despite what your dealer said, sounds like it had be demoed.
