Angry Europe? Can't afford the Z

Hey folks,

first, let me say, that I'm very pleased about this forum. It's very nice to read your posts, to view your pics from your Zs.

Now, back to topic. Today I've read an article on an german car testing website, that Nissan is taking the pre-orders for the new Z.
They offer two versions: Base and Pack. Pack includes leather, Bose-Audio and seat heating. 19" wheels is an option.
And now the price: 38690 Euros (!) for Base, Pack starts at 41190.-
Let me convert it: 50939 / 54227 US $
Ok, from the "old" Z I know, that Nissan modified the chassis and we had cooling fins for the differential. But, hello?
When I think on it, that I live in Austria, and we've got to pay additional taxes etc, the Z is not payable.

So, folks, be glad, that you live in the USA

Sorry, had to post this. It's really pi**sing me off

That sucks. We are lucky in the states that imports are affordable relative to what other countries seem to pay. How is the Z priced to other cars in Austria?

Stick around long enough and you will get hooked and have to rob a bank or something.

Sounds like a simple problem that can easily be fixed. Buy the car in the U.S. and have it shipped to your country. Importing a car into somewhere other than the U.S. has got to be a snap. Most areas don't have to deal with the BS we do here, like emissions, air bags etc.

In all likelihood, there is probably some VAT or additional tax on imports that might be due as well if importing but I am just speculating...

Think its bad there...in Hong Kong, entry level "import" luxury vehicles are crazy expensive - can be multiple six figure US$ as I've heard...I'm talking about 5 year old used base Porsche 911s, some BMWs.

so. do it the other way around it's cheap priced then for the OP and us

there are importing tax, manly the value of the car of what the drivers licence office determines and that value will be taxed and you gotta pay up......
still cheaper then buying it at a local dealership for him

I wasn't referring to him buying a Porsche or BMW in Austria...

I do understand how import taxes work in general, however, different everywhere. Unless you are an expert on Austria/Japan tax treaties and/or are a customs broker, your statement is pure speculation.

England is the only European country that drives on the left - like the Japanese and Australians.

The rest of Europe (including Austria) drive on the right, like you guys, so a Japanese set-up would be no good for him. I remember in the 60's, Sweden decided to change from driving on the left to driving on the right - and they did it overnight!!!

In England quite a few people import cars from Japan, they are then set up to meet the UK legal requirements and the buyer normally saves himself a bit of money.
