My experience in buying a 370z 40th Anniversary Edition
Hi Everyone,
I have been reading this forum for awhile, but just registered today, because I am officially a Nissan 370z owner, sort of.. I bought a 40th today, instead of picking the one currently in the showroom,..I decide to wait for the second one that plan to arrive around 3/26. Here is my experience and what I encountered, hopefully this can help other future buyers. ====== 1. Talked to 3 different dealerships around my area during February and I got three different quotes. Dealership A $37,800, Dealership B $37,600 and Dealership C $39,500. 2. I then used AMEX Auto purchase site ( American Express | Car Buying Home Page ) and got two quotes for the 40th. $36,032 and $36,132, but the dealers provided by AMEX NEVER contacted me...oh well... 3. I called all three dealers A,B,C back again around end of Feb..and I said I will take the car, if I can get a $37K deal. All 3 dealership stand firm on their price and told me this is a unique car, their managers will not lower the price. 4. March comes, Dealership B contacted me. I told him $36K, he said he can't..so the conversation ended. 5. I then read on this forum that some member paid $34.8 with VPP and $36.7K without, so I think $36.5K is a range acceptable to me. As I drafting my email to dealership B to offer this price, he contacted me and gave me $36.4K. 6. My OTD price is $36.4K + $3870(T/T/L) = $40.3K 7. I told the dealer I will finance 20K at first, and they gave me 5.99% for 48 and 60 months. In the printout I see the interests will be around $2.5K and 3.3K respectively.. so I decided to pay cash, then he offer me 3.75% instead if I buy the extend warranty 6yr/75K miles which is $1.9K with Costco card membership (w/o is $2.7K).. Anyway, I didn't buy the extended warranty.. but should I?. The dealer told me after the first year of the factory warranty, if something broke, you need to pay service $210 for tech just to look at your car, if you buy this warranty, it is covered... is this true?, anyway.. I still have 2 weeks to decide before the car arrives.. Conclusion.. I think I can get a better deal than $36.4..maybe in the $35K range... since their first 40th has been sitting on the showroom for 3 weeks and not sold. The car still sitting there and they priced it @ $42K when I was there to sign the paper today. I spent 5 weeks to work out this deal..I think I should spend longer to save an extra 1k... You can get VPP as well, if the dealers is willing to sell the car under VPP

Talked to about 5 dealerships and most of them said they would not honor the VPP plan on the 40th edition. Finally one of them realized they aren't going to get MSRP on this thing and played ball.
Sale Price with VPP Plan B: $34929.88 The total OTD with dealer documentation, title, and tax comes to: $38,911.00. The dealer has not broken down exactly what costs what on the OTD price. I live in NV so the taxes should bring it to $37,759.20 which means there is $1151.80 that I am not quite sure about on the OTD pricing. I think the $720 destination fee is part of that which leaves $431.80 that I am unsure of. This OTD price is the first possible price they have brought me and I have not negotiated back at all yet. Can anyone suggest what I should counter with? I know the price is already great but I still think these guys sound like they are willing to budge a little more. |

Yeah I think you are right i'm waiting on a price worksheet from them, he was trying to tell me that 720 from destination and handling was included in that 1100. But I think that sounds like BS now that you said its included in the VPP?
Now the trick is financing. I'm thinking of putting 20K down on it and trying to get a 3.9% rate from Nissan or else go with a credit union. Does this sound like a good plan? |

Invoice price is the price to pay currently, dealerships are not paying the online invoice price so they are able to sell it still for profit and feed their families and be all happy.

I just don't understand how w/ a VPP price, people are still wanting more and more. If you get the vehicle for invoice or a little less that's a good deal. Remember that dealership personnel are people just like us, and they do need to make a living.
