I'm guessing there would be enough 370z out by then around my area where I wouldn't need to order one, but I guess just in case how does it work. Go into the dealership, haggle over a price, sign papers and put a down payment on it and just wait? How much does the down payment have to be etc.

And yes, I have to wait or else I would already have one

Actually, when I was going to order I did not put any money down just was going to sign a document with intent to purchase.

Keep in mind, they don't produce these year-round so it's not necessarily as easy as just ordering one if you can't find what you want. I think the last production run for the 2010 model is about to start in March, then that's it. You won't be able to order one until they start taking orders for the 2011 model. But if you're waiting until the end of 2010, you may even miss the cutoff to get in on the first 2011 run. In which case you'd have to wait until Feb 2011 to see if they'll do a second production run. Only yesterday I learned that they're going to build my 2010 model.

Also keep in mind, I'm speaking from a Canadian perspective, and maybe the production cycle is different for cars destined for us.

This is good info. So if I waited until September it'd pretty much I get the luck of the draw/whatever is left?

From my experience, dealerships only put in orders once a month, so if you miss that, you need to wait til the next time they put in new orders. Most will ask for some sort of deposit, just make sure it's refundable. After you order, you just basically have to wait. At some point after your order goes in, your dealer should get a VIN for your order and some estimated delivery date. Typically 3 months from when the order goes in til delivery.

Man this worries me. I won't be ready to buy until June, but it's going to kill me to have to tack on 3 more months after that, if I can't find what I want! Hopefully I can find something in South Florida that will suffice. I really have my heart set on PG/Touring/Sport/Nav/Persimmon though.

I think whats going to make that hard is the Persimmon.

I want the 40th edition, if it's possible then it would be awesome, but it's unlikely.

Realistically my other choice would be Monterey Blue/Touring/Sport/Nav

If I had to get rid of one thing it would be the nav, then after that it would be the touring and then the color choice. I definitely want the sport package.

Elsewhere in the forum I've seen people who've ordered in August and taken delivery in December or January. If it takes about 3 months to build / ship, then that suggests to me that a September order should be fine to net you a 2011 model. But I'm just guessing here.

Yeah, the first thing I'm willing to move on is the interior color. I am pretty dead set on the nav and sport though and just looking through local inventory, that is the most rare config(navigation).

I had to wait five months, don't sweat it. It's well worth the wait to get exactly what you want.

The wait is the worst. Also even after you've settled on a price and put down a deposit and after all that waiting you still have to go through the finance department. Since I'm waiting anyway, I'm going to take the time to get a loan beforehand so they don't jerk me around when I go to the dealership. I would also make sure you keep in contact with your sales guy to check up on your order.

has anyone every heard of someone ordering, waiting, and then having the dealer call back and say 'sorry we can't get you what you ordered after all'?
