It wasn't so simple for me and it may be different up here in Canada. Perhaps there aren't as many production runs for us, but I was led to believe that there was one primary production run, then possibly a smaller secondary one in March if the sales warrant it. Here's my short story:
  • I put a deposit down for a car on Jan 28.
  • They couldn't find what I was looking for so they placed an order on Feb 2.
  • I received confirmation on Feb 18 saying that the production run was going to happen in March.
  • It's supposed to take 2 months to build.
  • I'm not sure how long it will take to ship, train, truck it to me.

Here's my long story:

GRRR. Apparently I only *thought* I bought my new Z

Maybe their are more production runs for cars destined for the US. But no matter what you'll need a little patience! (says the guy who'll barley be able to contain himself for the next several months)

I don't know how it is in Canada, but here is an order options sheet to help people understand.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4002/...a62e9cc0_b.jpg

So if you look top middle left(Vehicle Information) you see and Order #, that is how you know it's secured
Then below that is the Ordered on Date, so this on was ordered on 2/04/2010
Now if you look to the Right of that is Says Production Month : 3/2010
Then Below the Order on Date a few lines down you See ETA : 5/10

So once ordered 3 months
Once built 2 months to arrive.

Hope that helps everyone understand a little bit.

Where in Ottawa did you buy your Z? I'm originally from Nepean :)

I can't believe they sell for over $50K there! Canadian taxes are a killer...

Thanks Fuzz. I ordered mine the 21st. should i have heard from the dealer yet. they said expect it in june, but do they typically call you to say 'hey we placed the order?' should i assume they haven't placed the order since they haven't said so? i'm not worried about waiting, i'm just worried about having nothing but a piece of paper in 3 months

Not sure how long it's been for you but I bought from Hunt Club Nissan, which is a relatively new, large, bright, shiny dealership. Very slick. Walkley Nissan was torn down a few months ago - a new Shoppers Drug Mart is being built there.

I grew up in Nepean too! I went to Merivale High School. Good times.

Even if I could negotiate them down to Dealer Invoice ($42,214), taxes and all the rest still would have nudged it right up to $50K! At least that's fully loaded with all the goodies. Expensive, yes - but of all the cars I was looking at, this is only car I can afford which really makes me feel like I'm not compromising. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is pretty good bang for the buck, but it's just not in the same league in my opinion. Pretty much every other car I was looking at you either needed to lay down some serious coin to feel like you weren't compromising (S4, S5, M3) or you couldn't get manual transmission (IS350). WRX STI caught my eye, but it just doesn't have the sex appeal. So I'm stoked to get my hands on my zed! (relax, yanks, 'zed' is an inner joke to a fellow Canuck)

Your order will most likely go through in march. You should hear something in the next few weeks. Most orders are taken in the 2nd week of the month.
Hope that helps you.

I went in to my dealer in North San Diego yesterday prepared to order a roadster, white with wine int. & top. They had already contacted Nissan who told the dealer they had already "used up" their allocation of wine interiors, which they are "limiting" production on, whatever that means. So they said wait until March and then order. How ridiculous is that? They have a ready customer, dealer wanting to order, and they say call us next month! What would have been the harm in taking the order and putting me on a list? It makes me think they are making up an excuse for some other reason they don't want to disclose. The dealer didn't really get it either. (out of wine seats??)
Meanwhile we have Robert Nash posting here on 2/22 that Nissan wants to increase market share and that we can get a VPP claim number and buy at employee pricing.
If they want to ramp up sales why do they make ordering so hard? Reading this thread, its like they have a gauntlet for the customer - hardly any roadsters in inventory - then create obstacles to ordering. Sounds like they are trying to emulate BMW. If there was some inventory out there we could buy a car today instead of three+ months from now. Call Jerry, its bizzarro-world.

Thanks. i spoke to my dealer yesterday. he said they place the order on march fourth. they have 2 dealerships and he said between the two of them they should have allocation for mine. I'm just paranoid until i get a 100% that its being ordererd. Then again i will probably be worried that they'll put the wrong transmission in or something. I guess nothing's 100% until its in my driveway.

shoopajae10 02-28-2010 02:23 AM

they really do need more inventory. argh!!

Parrotguy 03-01-2010 11:14 PM

Jeff, If they put in the order mar 4th, and they get the allocation, whatever that means, how long do they estimate before the car arrives at the dealership?

everyone says here about 3 months. I will definitely post when they call me.

Jeffblue 03-03-2010 05:14 PM

So my dealer called me today. To kid with me he says "Hey... we couldn't get the allocation for your car...................BUT we called another dealer and they didn't want one of the Z's they were allocated so they let us have it and it should be here end of May/begining of June"

I guess the other dealership didn't want the liability of having a 2010 Z if they've got a bunch of 09's...

Can they can trade allocation for cars ? Have you heard of this fuzz?

Mosi 03-06-2010 04:34 PM

Ordered Mine

I ordered mine on 2/21/10 through Overseas Military Sales Corp who claim to deal directly with the factory.

My order:
2010 7AT Touring
Black Cherry/Black Int
Sport + Nav
Splash Guards
Floor Mats + Trunk Mat
Illuminated Kick Plate

Total - $38,819 with delivery in Hawaii, mid June. I am hoping for earlier since my deployment ends in May but I will be happy as long as it's not delayed.

When does Nissan stop taking new production orders for 2010 models? At what point in the year will I be stuck choosing from existing inventory?

Parrotguy 03-07-2010 06:27 PM

I got a VPP number from Robert , got all excited, now the reality sets in. No cars meeting my choices.
I wanted a Touring Roadster, Manual Trans, Pearl white, interior wine, second choice gray, no preference re: Nav or sport, meaning included or not, either way is OK.

My dealer found no cars, including in transit. Now he is hoping to find something in a new allocation on Mar 10. Only three weeks left in the VPP program.

I'm not sure what I will do if nothing is found. Maybe give up altogether. It just too hard to buy this car - been trying for a month. If anyone has knowledge of a car meeting the description above anywhere please let me know.
