At a Y in the road - Part Out Z or Sell As Is?
Can't get the Z to stay on. The mechanic says they Think they finally figured out the issue but it's going to cost about $2.5k without guarantee it'll fix it or he said a better option would be to swap another engine for ~$5k. The issue has something to do with the passenger cam timing. Something about the oil pressure being low (might have a slight leak that over time messed up the timing? Don't know)
It's 2009 MT Touring Gray. 175k miles. The front bumber needs replaced. Slight crack in windshield. It's just to a point where it has a lot of minor things that add up to a lot. The shop offered to buy it for $2.5k which is not happening. I'm thinking of parting out. What do you think? Anyone have any idea how much you get from slowly parting out? Thanks |
Low oil pressure could be from the galley gaskets leaks by. They're behind the timing chain. It's a known problem.

There has to be someone near where you live that has experience with the VQ motor and can fix it without raping you. :icon14: |
Throw some pictures up with a price and see what happens !
Then make up your mind. You don’t have to sell. |
Run from that shop and don't look back :eekdance:

Keep your Z and fix it and enjoy it! This shop your dealing with either has no idea or clue about our cars or their business practices are dishonest. Definitely choice a new shop to repair your Z at there has to be someone near you that has some experience with VQ platform or at least has some experience working on Nissan/Infiniti vehicles. First areas to consider looking into would be a compression check and leak down test.

you are not to far from the z-shop in carrolton,Ga. maybe go to local tennessee zcar show or the group section in this forum.

Dynosty and Z1 shops are near you. Take your car to either of those shops. Also, you can buy a low mileage engine pretty cheap these days. The VHR has been slammed into a TON of Nissan vehicles. I sold mine for 500 bucks or so (90k mi). You could probably get a low milage one for about 1500.

Thanks for the input guys, I decided to keep her and swapping out the engine. Found an engine for $1600, does the shop usually keep the old engine? I'm wondering if I can sell it to someone that rebuilds?

Oh, and find another shop. I'm sure your old engine is repairable. |
