2009 Price Question???

Here's the deal. The dealer I'm dealing with is telling me there is only one Monterey Blue Touring/Sport 6 speed Black interior with Nav. left out there. I'm thinking this is a load of crap, but maybe he's telling the truth. I'm more inclined to believe that it is the only one close to me.

Anyways they are wanting 38300. They say that is fair because of the hassle it is going to be to trade for it and so forth on there side. I'm showing invoice at about 37,400, and Edmunds says that people are getting them for 37,750 or so. So my question is this an okay deal. I'm not looking for a steal just a fair price.

For those thinking wait for a 2010, I'm up against a December 31st deadline for taxes.

Any comments would be great.

They just came off another 300 without me asking...

Use edmunds. Ask for 1000 below invoice at least. If not wait for a 2010 and get exactly what you want at invoice. Don't get sucked in to "it's the last one available" that only applies to yellow. Nissan will build more blue cars.

Jones Boy 11-24-2009 07:21 PM

Well, I have to have it for tax purposes before the end of the year. And is 1000 below invoice seriously a fair place to start? I hate to haggle over stuff, and I'm not super great at it.

FuszNissan 11-24-2009 08:30 PM

I know that you won't get a 1000 below invoice. Invoice for the vehicle you are after is 36997.00 So 38k isn't that bad, you could get them down to invoice and it would be a fair deal. If you want to wait for a 2010, don't expect to get invoice right off the bat. Unless you are dealing with a dealer that has no Z's and wants to sell one.

Jones Boy 11-24-2009 08:49 PM

Thanks Lou, I sent you another private message regarding your response. I appreciate the quick replies. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

vortrex 11-24-2009 10:04 PM

I don't see why you can't get at least $1k below invoice, many people on this forum have.

Jones Boy 11-24-2009 10:28 PM

The reason I don't see this going below invoice is because it isn't sitting on the dealers lot. They are having to dealer trade for one.

FuszNissan 11-24-2009 10:48 PM

Many, who??? I haven't seen one yet.

FuszNissan 11-24-2009 10:52 PM

What were the fees involved. Are we talking 1000 below invoice before fees? Just curious

More than $1000 below invoice, out the door is one offer I have today. Chicane Yellow! Now all I have to do is talk the wife into the color! :eekdance:

FuszNissan 11-24-2009 10:56 PM

That is insane. So what is the OTD price. have they not accepted it yet? Wonder if they are scared of yellow.

No,I haven't accepted it...it's a firm offer. I can't post it, AK will kill me. :ugh2:

And only 2 hours earlier, I got an offer from another dealer for $40K on same vehicle. wtf!

FuszNissan 11-24-2009 10:58 PM

LOL.... Wow, maybe I need to step up my game. 1000k below invoice is zero profit. Nada

heck I got mine for $500 under invoice and that was a dealer trade where I had to pay the $600 in trucking fees even. no dealer fee at all. I guess maybe it's only in CA, but lots of people getting more than $1k under invoice.

FuszNissan 11-24-2009 11:01 PM

More than 1k under invoice seems crazy. that's losing money. Maybe I need a reality check, but I hope not. I have been selling for 700 below invoice and making a couple hundred in profit, just seem more then 1k below is nuts. I don't think that everybody that comes on here is going to see a deal like that, that's why I am a little skeptical. What was the dealer fee in Cal..1000.00

no dealer fee at all.

FuszNissan 11-24-2009 11:05 PM

Damn, good job.

I hear you. I'll say this, it's a large dealer, and they still have lots of Zs on the lot. They want to move '09 inventory, I reckon.

Dunno if I'll even go with them since they are not very close, it'll be a day-long affair to get there and back home :tiphat: but man it is tempting. And still have to convince wifey that yellow is what SHE wants, lol.

FuszNissan 11-24-2009 11:23 PM

That's easy, just wave your hand in front of her face and use the jedi mind trick

oh wait, I calculated with the destination fee. so, I actually I did even better than I thought, around $1100 under invoice on a dealer trade. because mine was a long distance dealer trade I didn't end up as well off as the others. this dealer was selling cars in stock and local dealer trades for like $2600 under invoice.

Jones Boy 11-24-2009 11:30 PM

Holy cow, I wish I was getting that kind of deal. What exactly are dealers fees considered to be? The doc fees? Transporting or the destination fee? Just wanted to know. I'm kind of jealous of the 1000 under. I don't think that is gonna happen for me, seeing how I really think it is gonna be a pain for them to dealer trade. Oh well, guess I'll sleep on it tonight.

370Zsteve 11-25-2009 08:21 AM

There is a red Z in PA right now on eBay going for $34,150 "Buy It Now" price. 6MT/Sport/Touring

That is about $1100 under Invoice. The car has 20 miles on the odo.

Got an email from this dealer today. They "didn't notice" that I wanted the sport option :ughdance:.

They came back with $36550. I countered with $35500 :happydance:

FuszNissan 11-25-2009 09:01 AM

^^ And it begins!

Matt 11-25-2009 09:15 AM

Over/under invoice is very dependent on the dealers inventory. If they don't have the Z on the lot, it's gonna be tough to negotiate to invoice. If they have 20 Zs on the lot, a few hundred below invoice shouldn't be hard this time of year.

For 2010, I'd expect a lot of dealers to stand firm between sticker and invoice for a few months before inching towards invoice mid-year.

Of course, I may also have no idea what I'm talking about. You've been warned!!:tiphat:

No, it ends! I'm on my way to buy a Silver 2009 6MT/Touring/Sport w/Splash and mats. Price $35000 with no dealer fee + tax and title.

:happydance:

FuszNissan 11-25-2009 09:56 AM

Congrats!

FuszNissan 11-25-2009 09:57 AM

So the Jedi mind trick didn't work....huh

Sean 11-27-2009 06:58 PM

Why a dealer is willing to lose $1000 on car and sell it below invoice....

If they have $35,000K in the car they are likely paying $175 month to keep that car on the lot. It's going into winter, the car is a year old, and if they sell that car they can get 3 Versa's which they can make $1000 profit on each. Then they get you in service and make $500-1000 year off of you. Also if you have a good trade they can likely make $3000K on that deal. Are you going to finance? Well there might be another $200-500 kick back in that deal too.

They will take a loss in one area if they think they can make it up in others.
