Nissan Rebate Question
I am buying a Nissan truck for winter, and it has been assembled and is en route to the dealer where I ordered it. Nissan just ended a rebate of an additional $500 for the Columbus day holiday. The rebate ended this past Monday.
My question--- How do I know that the dealership isn't screwing me out of the $500 rebate by telling me they haven't received the truck yet when they possibly could have? Is it possible for them to fill out the paperwork after the truck arrives on the last day of the rebate, then call me a couple of days later saying the truck is in and finish the deal (and me getting the shaft on the rebate)? What does Nissan look at to determine that the truck was sold during the rebate period before they shell out the rebate money? Is it the primary bill of sale? What prevents the dealership from claiming the truck was sold a day or two earlier and keeping the rebate for themselves if the vehicle was delivered to the dealership during the rebate period? I live too far away from the dealership to drive down there and check out their parking lots. Thanks in advance. |
Ummm...refer to the terms of the rebate. If you didn't take delivery within the required time period you're probably outta luck. I doubt a dealership is gonna screw with the dates etc, especially if Nissan has documentation that the truck was in transit and not delivered within the required time period. If you have signed documentation that the truck was bought within the period, and there's no stipulation that it be taken out of stock you may be OK....Why not just call your sales guy?

I got a VPP claim number from Robert that was due on August. When I ordered my car, my dealer told me they will accept the VPP clam number and priced my vehicle accordingly. My car arrived mid September and all of my paper work and VPP claim were still valid even though my claim expired in August.
I think your case is very similar to mine, so I wouldn't worry about it. However, I would ask the salesperson who ordered the car for you to confirm. If he/she said yes, then I would just put faith in it. |
There are no rebates on the Z right now.

Lube up before you go to the dealer or bring the KY with you just in case!..lol!

I am not buying a Z. I am not using the VPP program. I know I am out of luck when it comes to receiving the rebate.
Again: What prevents the dealership from claiming the truck was sold a day or two earlier and keeping the rebate for themselves if the vehicle was delivered to the dealership during the rebate period? |

I know you are not buying a Z and not using the VPP program. It is similar because you are getting $500 off of the sale tag while I get almost the same amount of off my invoice price with the VPP program. Different form of discount, but still a discount. Like you said, you were afraid the dealer is going to screw you over because the rebate is already ended before you received your car. My dealer honored my VPP claim after the expiration date. So, ask your dealer if they will honor it for your rebate. |

On the VPP, any dealer can do that deal any time. It's basically within a few bucks of invoice.. |
Thank you for the responses. I guess I haven't been very clear. My dealer did tell me that if the vehicle came in on the last day of the rebate, he could still get me the rebate even if we didn't sign the papers until the next day. What prevents them from doing the opposite and telling me the vehicle didn't come in on time (even though it did) and us completing the deal 2 or 3 days later (and the dealer keeping the rebate)?
I haven't paid for the vehicle yet. I don't expect to get the rebate if the truck truly never did show up and we close the deal after the cut-off date. However, if the above scenario is possible, I would have more negotiating power to take off the $500 from the selling price if I know it was true. |
